    Planning my first Saltwater Tank

:welcome to the best site on the net. I wanted to point out that one of the reasons we use filters that are much larger than you would expect is mainly because we don't use them the way they were designed to be used. We usually run them without media except for maybe a mechanical filter...

    10 gallon nano help...

You don't want to add any livestock including cleaners to your tank until after it has cycled. During cycling you want to keep your lights off and you also want the tank placed out of direct sunlight. Its fine to run a skimmer if you are going to use one and you will want something for...

    Digi-lab Digital Handheld Tester

That is the same company I purchased mine from. I am satisfied with mine with the exception that I still haven't figured out how to change the temp to farenheight. I wear glasses and my refractometer was hard for me to read after taking them off, with this I just dip and read. Even if it only...

NO BODY KNOWS WHAT HIT ME.........R.I.P

My condolences, I hate to hear of anyones fish passing much less the entire tank. I was also wondering if it was possible that something like air freshener was sprayed in the room or has an exterminater been by to spray? I wish you the best of luck with the remaining corals. I think you would...

New to the page. Here's my 4 gallon.

Your off to a very nice start. What kind of light is that, I thought it was a DIY at first until I saw the fixture. I also noticed the Nimble cleaning magnet in the last pic, they work great don't they. Skip

bak pak...can it be used on a sump/fuge?

BTW, using a 15 high instead of a 10 will make it so the skimmer doesn't hang below the tank and it adds another 5 gallons of volume so you can have a good sized refugium and still have room for the extra water if the power goes out. SKip

bak pak...can it be used on a sump/fuge?

You can make the sump work for the BakPak. Place a baffle so that it is on the end where the water comes in high enough that the water level is near the top of the tank, this is the section where you put the skimmer. From there water will overflow that baffle and the rest is up to the design...

    10 gallon nano help...

I have one of the 70s (the old 300) that I was able to try it on and the 100 watt Stealth was a bit too long. The 25 or 50 watt looks like it would be fine going diagonally on the back of the filter though. Here is a link to the Stealths and you will note that the 25 and 50s are 1 3/4" shorter...

    Cleaning your Nanocube

When I contacted them they recommended a super nimble for a 12 nanocube. The inner half is 1/2" thick, the inner part of the regular nimble is only 1/4". Don't let the "super" part fool you though this thing is still very much a nano cleaner. Skip

    What's happening need experts help

I have to agree that your tank is pretty heavily stocked for a 12 gallon. If you have a 6-10 inch bristleworm I would take that one out, bristleworms are generally harmless but in that size I wouldn't take a chance. You may need to add some buffer to try and get your pH up. If you have corals...

Almost any filter will work, the AquaClears are popular because of the size of the filter box having so much room to add things into. I have used Whisper filters before and liked them, heres a link: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/P ... 2004+22769 . I would probably go with the Whisper...

I don't know if you know about it or not but we are scheduled to have a chat on friday the 16th at 7 pm pst. The topic is Nanocubes. You may want to tune in if you get a chance, you could get some questions answered before you have a chance to ask. Just thought I would give you a heads up...

    10 gallon nano help...

I have used both of the heaters that have been linked to with no problems from either. A single powerhead and the hang on filter should be enough current but if you find you want/need more current it wouldn't be a big deal to add a second powerhead later. I lwould go with either the AquaClear...

AIPTASIA & DIGITATE HYDROIDS (ok i posted some pics)

I also have to agree, thats what they look like to me as well. Like I mentioned before though AFAIK hydroids are only a concern for tanks housing fry or dwarf seahorses. HTH, Skip

    Cleaning your Nanocube

They are glass tanks, thats part of the reason for all of the cracked tank threads on other boards. I used one of the small Twisters before I bought the Nimble and it worked out fine for me. The Nimble is quite a bit thinner though, it can even fit between the Hydor Deflector and the wall of...

    10 gallon nano help...

I bought the one they call adjustable, this means that I can flip my lights up out of the way when working on the tank. IMO if you don't have the legs then you have to use a glass top which can cause the heat to rise and cause overheating issues. I would at least get the regular legs but I...

As far as test kits go Salifert makes the best kits for hobbiests, they may not be as easy to find and may cost a little more but they are accurate. The main tests you will need are pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Calcium and alkalinity are also going to be neede when you start adding...
