HI all...im new here and to nano's!

Clowns don't require an anemone. They will be just fine in the tank with rock and sand. If you do get a jawfish make sure to have a thick amount of sand on the bottom of the tank so it doesn't starve. I would put the rock in first so it touches the glass then add the sand so when the jawfish...

    Computer Question

DSL, Cable, or do you have a special receiver antenna thingy on your roof that runs a wire into your house? If you have the last then I would say you need to get a new phone or new service provider. The 5.8 Ghz phones should solve the problem, but then again your microwave could transmit...

    Zoysia or Centipede

I saw some grass that looked pretty cool. Mondo grass I think it's called. Looks like a shaggy dog coat. I guess you never cut it so that's some low maintnance, not sure how it holds up to people walking on it though.

    Jumping six-line

No I haven't. Sorry about your pets. Some people put eggcrate on top of their tank so it acts like an open top but helps keep the fish in. Sold in home improvement stores as "light diffuser". Sorry to hear about the fish.

Well, if used right and cleaned often the plastic hydros work...kinda. I mean before all these cool refractometers where used, I guess the swing arm was king. It's cheap and even if the exact number is off, you can use it to keep your SG constant. Which if the SG is close to acurrate I'm...

Yeah anemones are not really all that easy to take care of. If you were to try it I THINK the bubble tip anemone is the easiest to take care of. Don't quote me on anything, these things will get up and walk around your tank killing anything in it's way until it finds a place it likes, then it...

Well coral comes on LR most of the time so leave a little expansion room. However at first I think it's better to put all the LR in at once so you only get one cycle. Search for the Aquaclear modification, it's a good read.

    New Oceanic Biocube

Yeah bio balls, ceramic rings things, bio wheels, etc, etc create nitrate really quickly and for a reef this is not exactly a great thing.

The setup looks great so far. Now to stick some live rock in it and wait a couple weeks :) I second the hang on back filter (Aquaclear is a good choice, but I have an old penguin bio-wheel that I might tinker with you just want good water capacity to possibly mod into a refugium).

A refractometer is nice but can be pricey for a quality one. There is a floating hydrometer that is actually more acurate than the refractometer and very cheap. There is one at Drs. Foster and Smith. As far as good algae and bad algae. It in itself isn't "bad" just normally undesirable...

Few weeks. Some don't even run lights during this time (to help with algae blooms).

Planning to convert my freshwater 29 into a reef. Input?

If you want to do it right I would have a fuge, skimmer, and some place to put in other media (carbon, phosban, etc..). An HOB filter is a good place for those and you can take it off if you don't want it running. If all else fails on the light you could find a local carpenter and have them...

Not sure if you have it but a surface skimmer is a great thing to have. I don't have a cube but i think the new ones have the skimmer while the old ones don't. Hopefully Ed will correct me.

Try to avoid glass heaters. They are not bad, there is just a chance of a piece of LR or something breaking it and then you will have a problem. I like the stealth heaters. Decent price, plastic, and surpisingly acurate, plus there are no little LEDs in them to draw the eye to heater.
