I'm not sure what you have under the canopy of your tank, but I'm betting you get a small gravity fed ATO under that canopy along with those lights...

How do you tell the differnce between the mexico variety of catalina? I don't really trust my LFS too much.

I was under the impression that the purple firefish was much more agressive and wouldn't tolerate regular firefish period. I don't have both of these, and for the life of me I can't remember where I read that.

I'm guessing it's just not hungry and that frogspawn is getting enough food from the water column. I'd worry if it starts to look stressed.

Maybe you could use the torch in the next frag swap? I wish I could see this tank in person, I'm sure the coloring is much different that in the pictures. I think my favorite part is the feather duster fields.

I'm not a fan of the all in one systems. It seems like a lot of people are upgrading everything in them anyways so why not just get a 10 gallon or 20 gallon long and get all the equipment you want the first time around? Just my two cents.

I've heard a good deal about the Ice probes. It is supposed to reduce 6-8 below ambient for 10 gallons. You would have to drill your tank I believe, or drill a HOB filter (not a bad idea).

Did you ever figure out the water quality issue?

12cm ball bearing computer fans with a speed contol switch would probably be ideal for this job. you could turn the speed down for a quiet operation and turn them up in the summer for more oompf. Glad everything worked out.

You will probably have to get the surface skimmer unit to be free from the "oil slick". It's only 30 bucks.
