Santa Came with my 28 JBJ HQI and i am clueless PLZ HELP!!

They got you covered. You have an HQI tank so you are equipment wise ready for corals, but I recommend reading all you can and go slow. First best thing to do is just live rock, live sand, and salt water in the tank and let it "cycle" as you read up on all the things out there. Check out the...

Nice! No issues with the firefish and jumping the tank?

    Newb Question

Very cool looking! I personally like zebra hermit crabs, but they can get a bit aggressive and eat snails if the crabs want a new shell.

Lion fish and tankmates for them. Are they reef safe?

I've not had them but I imagine they follow other aggressive fish guidelines. Keep them with other fish that are not so easily bullied. No clue about the reef safe part. I imagine that inverts (shrimp and crabs) are out of the question though.

When adding new rock to a new tank do the lights need to be

True about the photosynthetic algae, but that algae only lives with the coral. So if you live rock doesn't have any coral on it then the choice is yours. I recommend leaving the lights on for the time cycle you choose for a day or two just to see if heat will be an issue. After that then...

    Suggestions for a nano newbie

Glad to see some more postings! :welcome to Nanotank.com and back to the hobby. Here is my take on your questions: 1. I checked a head loss calculator and I don't think the maxijet 1200 will have the ability to do what you need it to. I don't know the dimensions, but a quiet one 1200...

    Advice on setting up

I personally have seen the little guppy tanks turned into very nice reef tanks. (water changes daily, but it can be done) Depending on the work you want to put in you can have a tank of any size. Most common sizes I have seen are 6, 10, 12, 20, 24, and 30 gallon tanks. I have seen plenty...

    Update on My 24G Aquapod

Maxi jets work nicely as they tend to use less power (aka less heat).

Enjuried Sea Star / Star Fish

I say cut it off. They can regenerate. I know a couple people who use those stars to feed harlequin shrimp.

    Newb Question

I tend to go light in the tank, but if you put two fish or more you may want 9 - 13 pounds of rock.

My tank is cloudy (new tank)

Honestly just wait. :wlift The cloudyness is not an uncommon event. I would suspect something in the tap water and or the sand itself. Just give the tank time to settle down. With the reef setup make sure you clean any sponges or filter media frequently to help keep nitrates down. If you...

New Reefer........not the kind u smoke

In that small of a tank PC lighting is almost the norm due to size, heat, and cost. I have seen many types of corals SURVIVE in that light, but may not be exactly super happy with the amount of light. Putting the two types of corals as soft and hard is a bit of an over simplification. PC...

    10G build questions

Looking like the beginnings of a tank! :) For skimmers there are two trains of thoughts I've come across. Some say skimmers pull out desirable minerals and some say they are fine. I personally am of the latter train of thought. Skimmers work by removing DOC (dissolved organic compounds)...
