Please remember that pods are a staple in a mandarins diet. Even with pods in your tank, due to their constant grazing the supply is going to run out. Don't get me wrong, it is a good sign that they eat frozen food at a LFS, but they NEED their supply of natural foods.

All the fish seem fine, along with the cucumbers (anyone have an idea on that one?) So far I've noticed a few rics, a purple gorgonian, a flower anemone, the malu, and the candy canes seem to be alive and stuggling, all else seem to be dead. I've done a small water change and a few hours later...

Sounds like a bristle worm. Did you notice if it had any red coloring on it?
