Do you have the specs on your tank as far as Salinity, ammonia, Nitrate, and nitrite and temps? This also may help to establish what is going on in the tank. Everything about your set-up will help us help you out, including pics.

Hi Jennifer!! First There is not much you can do about the cycle while inhabitants are in the tank. To take care of the algea I would get a Turbo snail to help mow down some of the grass(if there is a lot as you are saying), and find a good Clean up crew; then do a water change, not a big one...

Some hithhikers are very hardy and can survive the cycle. Was the Marshall Islands rock bought as cured? And was it bought locally or was it shipped to you, because if it was shipped there is probably some die off anyway, and adding that to the tank would cause a cycle of somesorts. I would add...

Nice setup! Looks very nice. Going to look real good once you can start adding corals. Looks like you have a lot of areas to glue stuff. The refractometer takes about 25 seconds to test. Put a drop of water on the glass, close the top, look into the viewing area to see the measurement, and done...
