    Zero Edge

a gallon a day is average for most tanks. If I run my fan, my tank will evap about 1.5-2 gallons per day (that's on a 29g tank).

Question on setting up a 12g nano cube....

Here might be a good starting point. http://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=264597 Here are a few things to remember. 1. Be Patient. Nothing good happens in a tank when you rush things. Fish and coral are easily stressed especially when their water parameters change...

    Zero Edge

i know that acrylic at those sizes isn't cheap, especially if they are having someone else bend it and form it. The last place that I worked at use 4' x 8' sheets of Lexan (smoked polycarbonate or plexiglass) and it was hellishly expensive. I'm willing to bet that material alone is over...

    Weird Algea problems

i don't think that fake plants will have any negative side effects in a tank. They aren't much different than PVC or any other plastic surface. It is a place that algae may tend to grow but you should be able to clean them off with pipe cleaners fairly easily. Some of the fake plants/coral...

i would be more worried about it scratching and loosing the luster of the crystal clearness of the display. I think that's part of why it looks so great is that it is so clear and smooth.

    Question about fragging

I got some frags at a swap a couple of months ago, specifically a frogspawn. It came on a plastic plug that I had a hard time getting it to sit on the rock work so i ended up putting it in the sandbed. Questions: 1. Will the sandbed irritate the coral's base structure? 2. Are they...

    Zero Edge

I'm not sure that I like the smooth surface. Surface disruption promotes oxygenation of the water. Makes you wonder how long their tanks have been setup. Edit: ok i watched the video a bit and think i understand how they are doing it. basically they just overflow the display tank into a...

    Weird Algea problems

how old is your tank? it's really hard to say for sure without a pic to identify what type of algae it might be. without a good id on the algae, it makes it hard to pin point what the source is and treatments. most algae will thrive off of phosphates. diatoms feed off of silica (aka quartz)...

PFO 14 inch 20000K Solaris LED Lighting Fixture

the sticker price is a huge investment into something that may not work out. That's one of the reasons why I haven't invested much time into an LED setup. Nearly 2000 LED's is a pretty chunk of change to drop into a light system. If my current setup ever gets replaced then I might try it but...

    Clypeasteroida (Sand Dollars)

Does anyone know where you can buy these guys (alive). I'm interested in adding one to my tank but not sure if they survive well or not, nor can I find anyone selling them.

    Tire Reef???????

did no one even test this on a small scale? I mean seriously, tires are as porous as a diamond. Not only that but any steel or nylon will quickly deteriorate in salt water (I can't say for certain about tire rubber). Someone should have hit them over the head for even thinking of it.

    My ricordia

How high are these guys in the tank and how much light? I thought that ric's loved light but mine was all shriveled up when I had it high in the tank. As soon as I moved it down, it started opening and growing. It might be a combination of the two.

    confusion

Stagnant water is the issue. There is no oxygen transfer when there is no water movement. When they are in bags and being transported, they are almost always in a state of constant motion. This oxygenates the water with the air that is in the bags. If you left a bag unmoved long enough, the...
