The place where you live

Thought I would start a thread that anyone can contribute to that 'shows off' thier home town, favorite holiday spot, local attractions ect.

Since we are all from very different parts of the world, I thought it would be interesting for everyone.

I'll start.

I, like a lot of the new members live in the South East Corner of the State of Queensland in Australia.

This website shows off my favorite pass time, getting in or under the water.

We have endless waterways here on the Gold Coast and all that water comes in and out through the Gold Coast Seaway. It is only clear at the top of the high tide. Visability varies from 5 to 15 metres. It mostly has tropical fish, most species and only a few corals.

This link shows an event that happens every year. Bull sharks, very common in the waterways, congregate in large numbers on the beaches to catch and eat the bait fish that come close to shore. The bait fish sometimes move in unexpectidly around surfers which makes for an interesting news story.

Nice!

I am currently in a small town outside of Chicago! Pingree Grove, it's claim to fame is the writer "Laura Ingles Wilder" (Little house on the Prarie - the book not the show) lived there. Not born...just lived.

I live in South Jersey, where the Pinies and the Jersey Devils like to run rampant. There is always something going on in Atlantic City, similar to Vagas only not as extravagant. The diving off the coast is awesome if you like wreck diving. Although, it gets to mid 50's at the warmest and on extremely good, rare days visibility can be at around 30ft. Both NYC and DC are both about 2.5 hours away so they make for good day trips and Phillie is only 45 min. The joy of living in a megalopolis.

Hey Tim, google Earth'd Pingree Grove. Man you are land locked! Well done for puttin such great tanks together that far away from the ocean.

Dag, Sounds great. My Missus wants to live in NYC. We have been there a couple of times. That water is WAY to cold for a sub-tropical animal like me. You would have to sit me in a bucket for about a week to aclimate me to that water!

I live in Tampa, FL, city of champions. We have the longest continuous sidewalk in the world along Bayshore Drive which is on the water. 4th largest metropolitan area in the southeast. We have lots of outdoor recreation, art, and a diversity of dining. Beaches all over the place and of course Busch Gardens.

Ya it is a little cold but surfing is nice. I was out January with water temps of 30 degrees F with ice chunks floating. My old board got a nice ding on the bottom from a head size chunk. I was wearing a 6/4mm wetsuit with 7mm hood, booties, and gloves. The best part was no one was in the water, I had a friend on shore and would have never gone out alone, and I was getting shoulder high clean waves.

 You're nuts :!:

compared to you, we are a bunch of pansies over here. We are in 3mm spring suits as soon as the water hits 20celcius.

During the summer the water does get to 70F and some people wear spring suites. I usually don't surf during this time due to too many tourists getting in the way. This is when I like to go diving if I have the time and money.
