Skip, I definitely do recommend that retro if your ever in the market for one. Very good quality. Thanks for your input on my tank, I appreciate it!

I got to work today and threw together a canopy.

I still need to go over it with wood filler to fill the screw holes and a couple other areas. Then prime and paint it. I think it came out pretty good.

Its all 1 piece.

I plan to install a couple 18w actinic PC's on each side of the halide along with two 3" fans.

How's it look?

Thank you sadielynn :drink: and where are your updates? I've been looking :smoke:

I puttyd the bajesus out of my canopy today. I want it to look as smooth and as shiny as the glass. Needless to say there will be some additional sanding... wish me luck! LOL!!! :lol3:

You scored some great looking zzos, when they gow to fill the spaces in that is going to be an awsome display (possibly a future contest winner?). You definately have some sanding ahead of you, LOL. That should end up looking very smooth after its painted. Keep the updates coming, Skip

yeah I'm pretty happy with my zoos so far. there are maybe 5 or 6 different variations that I'm really trying to get my hands on and then I'll just let everything fill in.

Thank you very much for the compliments! Take care Skip.

well I did a little sanding today. Here is how the canopy looks now. still have some work ahead of me though before painting.

yeah he thought that was a good idea until he lost his grip and went tumbling down the rocks!:lol3: Havent seen him do it since :lolol:

I got the mother colony of those zoos from fragfarmer.com. Its hard to capture how bright they are with a photo. They are like super duper red. There actually isnt even any pink on em. Its a blue mouth, then red, then a blue circle, then red again, and the skirts are like a deep red.

Maybe when it warms up I'll have some frags available for shipping.

the fans and fan grills for the canopy arrived today as did the smaller impeller for the fuge.

The fans have 4 blue LEDs a piece that light them and then the grills are chrome. Should look pretty nice up against the black paint of the canopy.

finished the canopy this weekend. Overall I'm happy with it but I think I'm going to make another one that's taller just for fun.

Your canopy turned out great. That is one colorful zoo rock, put me in line for a frag on down the line. It looks like this tank is beginning to take shape! Skip

skip, as always thanks for the compliments! I'm sure I'll have frags available in a couple months and your first in line. Ya the inner enviroment is starting to look pretty good but I just cant settle on my equipment.

Sadielynn you are always complimentary! Thanks again!

So like I said above I just cant figure out what I want to do equipment wise. I want a halide, then I sell it for PC's and build a canopy, now I'm thinking of going back to halide but doing a hanging pendant. I just cant decide.

So as a little experiment just to see how I like everything under some higher power PC's I rigged up this little diddy  I have the canopy I built and a laptop computer holding up two 65 watt PC's with two scraps of a reflector on top. After a couple days I'll make the call on what direction to go with my lighting.

Pretty sweet look though. I think it might catch on. :ipeace

i think even a 70 watt halide on such a small/shallow tank would be overkill. imo, a good pc fixture would be sufficient for anything you wanted to put in there. BTW, looks great.

thanks for your input reefman23. I actually have already run a 70watt halide over this tank, the only problem was the fixture it was mounted in sat to close to the water creating to much heat and grilling the corals. Had the fixture been lifted which I plan to do I'm sure I wouldnt have a problem. I actually ran a 70w halide over a 2.5 minibow.
