ok got some new stuff for the tank, and please don't ask me what any of it's calld, I'm still learning. I have one more picture left that I'm trying to get into photo bucket now, but I'm having issues with the server, so I will get it up soon. and as the Corals start to come out to play, I will post more pictures. but my tank is coming along well. I will stop getting stuff for now, give the tank a chance to catch up and grow. any suggestions on my set up will be cool though.

so, the tank is coming along great, though it seems one of my corals have died, not sure of the reason, but it was just a small frag, not sure if it was hardy enough to survive. as for everything else, they are doing fine, and as you can see, I have some new stuff. this hobby, like many others, is very addicting. so the green grass looking things I have up on the other page, have not come back out since I did my water change. LFS said that happens and just to give it a few day. but what do you guys think. I will be gone starting next week, but when I get back I will post more pictures. thanks again for all the help.

Looks like your corals are a bit stressed.

Keep up the regular water changes and they should be ok. The star polyps can take weeks to come out after a move from the LFS.

how regular of water changes do I need to do, that was my first one after about 3 weeks. I will tell you how I did it, please let me know if I did it right. As a lot of you know this is my first salt water tank.. I topped off the tank with RO water, and then removed about 3 cups or so of the water in the tank. I then filled it back up with pre-mixed saltwater. I am thinking maybe I should have waited to do the water change until an hour or so of topping it off. but some of us have to make mistakes in order to learn you know. any more suggestions on my tank. also, what would be really colorful to put in there? I want one more coral to put in, but I want it really colorful.

You need to make a mark on the back of the tank that will indicate a full mark.

You replace RO top up water to that fill line regularly to maintain salinity.

Water changes should be occuring twice a week on a tank of this size. Aim for 10% of the volume for each change.

Topping up before a water change is fine. It is probably better so that you can keep the salinity correct.

Three weeks is a long time between water changes. That is probably why your corals are not opened. You might want to try and do 5% changes every couple of days until things get a bit more stable. maybe in a week or so.

where did everyone go, never heard back from anyone
I was laid out with strep and two sinus infections (my son had scarlet fever!). Glad to see some pictures! Water changes like Geoff said should help your tank. Twice a week would great, but you might be ok with one a week.

good to see you back tim. I think everyone I know right now is sick, including myself. I think my wife has it the worse out of all of us though. so, the green grass like stuff started coming back out with in 12 hours of the water change, so I'm glad to see that. so here is my updated problem. I have read that some people have issues with emrald crabs picking off my smaller frags. The LFS said that is not an uncommon thing. so on friday I will be taking him back and trading for another frag. any suggestions on what else I should out in here. my buddy recomended a small fish, I though that would not be a bad idea, maybe then my wife would be a little more interested in my tank... the next week will be rough for my tank, I am in the military and I have a mission to go on next week for about a week, and my wife does not really want to mess with my tank, so we will see what will happen.

:) Do a water change the night prior and have a bottle of fresh top off water for her to just add to the tank (a wax marker on the outside of the tank does nicely for showing how much water to use) while you are gone. Wait until you get back to add anything else. (Clown gobies are small and pretty interesting)

well, after returning my emrald crab and using the store credit I got from him to pick up my Xenea (I think that's what it's called) I had to move my tank around just a little. I wanted to keep my star pollup and xenea close to each other because I liked the way they both danced in the flow of the water. as for the mushroom, it has more then doubled in size since I got it like a week ago. the small frag I have sitting at the tog of the tank, not sure what it's called, but it has still not opened all the way, and it's starting to look bad. well to me. the only reason I'm even posting about it is because every time I say something about them, it has seemed to be the very next day they open up, so we will see how that works this time. my trip to the LFS today has turned out to be a success, I think my wife picked out her tank she wants, so when I return form my mission I should be picking that up. of course I picked out the cheaper one, and she is getting the more expensive one, but that one will be a 20 Gal, so I will have a lot more room to play in there. well until next time friends.

I think I ave tiny little critters in my tank and the LFS does not open for a few hours, I need help. there are a bunch of little white specs all over the glass, kind of look like mites, and you can see them moving a little bit at a time, so I know they are alive. I'm so mad, how do I cure this, and what are they?

They are little amphipods or isopods..

They are eating the algae off your glass. They live in all tanks and are an important part of the biological filtraltion system that we try to create in marine tanks.

When I drained my last tank to move it, the last bit of water was thick with these little critters. BTW, they will also become food for the corals as they will be captured by the feeding corals.

Definately nothing to worry about.
