Hey,

I just got a bunch of frags from an aquaintance, and I would like to know if anyone knows what they are, or has any tips for care. It was 40 bucks for the lot, from a fellow whose tank is so overgrown he needed to frag them to make room. So please excuse my ignorance, but it was too good a deal to pass up. They all seem to be doing well enough in the last 3 days. I've spot fed them all Cyclopeeze so far.

Frag#1- Just a cool little zoo colony.

Frag#2- A little green dude that doubled in size already.

Frag#3 - I know this is a hammer but I just thought it was cool.

Frag#4- I think this is some sort of xenia, am I right?

Frag#5- This one is a very strange one. It is bunch of polyps on a leathery kind of matt-like surface. I have no idea how to attach it. So I really need to ID this one. I don't even know what it is supposed to look like.

Frag#6- I know this is an SPS, but he had to frag it as it was stinging another of his corals, so he put it in free. This won't survive in my tank will it. I have a stock NC24. It has good polyp extension so far. Its got the prime spot in my tank inder the lights and with the best flow.

Thats all for now. Everything seems to be doing very well with these new aquisitions. Though I think my cabbage coral from before is on the way out. That is the only one that is not doing well.

hi...i'm no expert, but that second one looks scarily like aiptasia to me!!....i may be being ignorant, and it's just a long stalked polyp....but the rate of growth would make me suspicious too

1)zoas good light and flow
2yellow polyps (ie parazoanthus) same do better where completely surrounded by mixed flow
3) hammer mod light, lower flow won't extend much in high flow areas - the only one of these that needs to be feed - but minimally only once a week mysis shrimp and cyclops is a good choice - when the lights first come on in the morning is best
4) leather (toadstool?) likely sarco will get big - good light and flow
5) GSP will spread lke crazy place it somewhere you want it cause it will spead onto other rocks easy to care for but keep detritus off of it though it don't like that.
5) orange Montipora digitata yea needs very good lighting but is one of the "easier" SPS's if your water quality is perfect it may survive up high and exposed to flow from all directions? however i see some recession already near the base and near the fork - if those areas don't grow over quickly it may die
nice frags!

All that even with blurry pics. My camera seems to have problems when the lights are on getting a sharp focus, and the pics look great on the 1.5"screen untill they are blown up.

Thanks for the advice, very thorough.

I like to get my stuff from local reefers in the area rather than LFS or internet. You save a lot of money but then need to post to get the right info. Fortunately you guys always come up big.

5) GSP will spread lke crazy
What does GSP stand for, and should I drape it over the rocks, or epoxy it down?
