Thanks, skip.

Just an update for everyone. Went to LFS yesterday, the gobys have paired well and are side-by-side for much of the time (despitebeing in a bare tank). Also, although one tried a sunk shrimp pellet, the other seemed disiterested. Anyway, i'll only get them if they're eating.

I just hope they stay showy and not shy away to the large cavity in the back left hand corner behind the rock. Also, although i hope they cut down my copepods, i hope they dont eat ALL, it's kinda nice having some around. I've also got about a dozen gammarus shrimps in my tank. Hopefully they're too big for the gobies to eat; i quite enjoy they're antics.

Well, i've added a dead coral branch fot the gobies to rest on, and hopefully they wont disturb the corals toomuch.

Will update you guys with pics the moment they come in. Thanks to all who helped, and most who didnt.

yellow clown goby with torch coral?

hi i have a 2.5 gal reef with a torch coral frag.

I've heard that yellow clown gobies can nip and irritate SPS corals by perching on them. i wonder if it is safe for my torch coral as well.

If not are there other fish or gobies i can get instead and will do as well as a clown goby. i'd prefer a small fish of course and one that swims quite a bit exploring my LR etc.

thanks!

Wow....For some reason I've missed everything in this thread since the last time I responded in it.

Mike, That's an incredibly generous offer on your part. I really appreciate it, but I think Conan has a great home. Eventually I'll fine one local that is doing well. It's not like they're rare at all here. There was even a guy considering getting rid of one that's been in his tank for quite awhile, so no reason to stress the little guy out by shipping him.

Mihkaail, The yellow guys should not be shy at all. They're very curious, and like to hang out where they can see everything. Consequently they tend to be right out in the open most of the time.
When you're posting the crazy prices you're having to pay, are these prices in Australian dollars, or US dollars?

air_doc, the clown goby i have doesnt even go near either my bubble or my hammer frag, i think your torch should be alright. I have a duncanopsammia (skeleton like octopus branch torches and the only thing the clown goby does is sit on the dead parts of the branches. Hes nice that way.

Incysor, sorry, most of my prices are in AUD, although 1 AUD is about 0.80-0.90 USD. the exchange rate isnt much. Despite being about 4hrs from the great barrier reef, stuff here's expensive and peoples technology is about 10 years outdated.

For example, when i told the LFS i wanted to set up a nano tank (about 5-7gallons) he thought it was a joke.

The clown goby gets shy when people flood into the room to stare at the tank. then he'll hide in the back, but when its just me and my room mate, he hands outside alot; on a shroom, on a trachy, on he algae magnet; and in his new fave place: in the propagation tupperware!

mihkaail, Yeah....even in AUD, your prices are close to 1/3rd higher than what I'm normally seeing here. Of course if I go to the two most expensive places in town it's nearly the same as what you're paying in USD. There's a reason I don't shop those stores.
How big is the area you live in? Maybe you could start a marine aquarium group and organize group orders online, so shipping won't kill you.

air_doc, You shouldn't have any issues with the goby and your torch. They're really predispositioned to SPS corals, but if you don't have any they'll usually go for something branch-like, as opposed to something that sways and moves. Mine really liked my devil's hand leather, and it liked laying on the mushrooms. It never went anywhere near my torch, or frogspawn corals.

I just got another one on Friday. He didn't start eating until Last night. I fed the tank cyclopeeze, brine, and mysis each night and watched him closely. Friday, no luck. Saturday, no luck. Finally last night he went after first the bine, then the mysis as well. Now as long as he wasn't caught with cyanide, he should be fine.

Just try a little bit of brine. If it'll take that it'll probably take mysis. Once it's eating, you can try flake, cyclopeeze, whatever you normally feed. But if you don't see it eat in the first 2-3 days, it's gonna be in trouble.

Okay, this post is just getting too long with a lot of different posters. Things are getting confusing. I'm gonna lock it.
