That is a nice looking catalina goby. I heard that they die in captivity if the water cannot be kept at it's native cool waters.

Good luck Ed....

Yeah TEMPERD GLASS will do the trick Erick ... Jesse recommended it to me and it does do the JOB and even the glass company will tell your that the tempered has UV protection but is kinda expensive my piece was like $25...

here is a pic not professional work but my best DIY...

so i guess you jsut cut out the bubbled part and put in some glass. pretty nifty .. does it have to be tempured? and hwo do you rig up extra fans?

Ive seen this mod in person and Ed did a very good job on it. The lighting looks fantastic and the color he gets with the 2 pc's and the 20,000k Ushio is perfect.

ANd with something like 6 fans and the chiller if he needs to run it, the tank stayed at like 75.5 while i was at his house.

Good work Ed!

what i did i cut the lower part of the splashguard leaving 1/2 of inch of plastic to glue it with the glass and i did that cause 2 reasons first when you upgrade to MH cause the bulb being like less than 2" away from splashguard you need to replace the plastic under the bulb to a normal piece of glass or the bulb will melt the splash guard so instead of having the light to go through to glasses ... like first UV glass on the MH fixture and then glass of the splash guard i decided to just have a big piece of UV glass on splashguard so ill have only one glass under the bulb thats why i did it and is tempered glass cause double ended bulbs need UV protection or your colars will get burn or bleached pretty bad (and for eye protection too)

the extra fans are PC fans conected with a DC ADAPTOR (12V OR LESS depending on fan) can be wired like this ... (INFO BY ARTARMON 42)

The fan will get a BLACK and a RED wire. The YELLOW is neutral: it is not used. I just cut (but not strip it) and then using electrical tape just stick it to the hood just to hold it in place.

The variable voltage adapter will have a BLACK and a BLACK-WITH-WHITE-STRIPE wire.

For each fan, connect the BLACK wire(s) to the BLACK wire from the variable voltage adapter. Use a wire nut to join them. Similarly connect tht RED wire(s) to the BLACK-WITH-WHITE-STRIPE wire from the adapter.

 thx jesse  and well i had my temp so low cause i was housing the catalina but he was moved to my 2.5g tank with a 67-70F cold water tank and he is happy now my 12g temp is constantly 77 and son to go back to the stable 78F (putting temp slowly up since no need for water to be cold since catalina is gone)
