Edgray - I wish I could tell you but I have no clue what the name is. It's actually branching out 2 of it's kind right underneath it! I was pretty juiced when I discovered them. Now that the lighting is more intense, I haven't seen any of the shrooms open as big as they did with my previous setup.

reefman - Yes, space is slim and it does get tricky. Although with this setup I can scrap algae off a lot easier which is a plus!

Can anyone help out?!!?

I'm getting really annoyed with the micro bubbles comming back into the tank because of the refugium outtake. It's not as bad but it's beginning to accumulate under the rocks. The outtake sits right above the chamber where the return pump is. I was thinking of setting my ATO sensor (which is also in the same chamber) a little higher raising the water level so it wouldn't splash as much. My second idea would be to put live rock in the chamber. If I put enough it might deflect the water and keep the micro bubbles from going straight to the return pump.

What do you guys think I should do?

Could you take a picture of the area the water out take is? I'm having a hard time visualizing it for some reason.

Well, here's what I came up with. I used 1 1/4" pvc pipe attached with an elbow. Just under the elbow I dremeled about 7 or 8 teeth openings. around it is a 2" pvc pipe used as baffle.

Top view:

Installed:

It didn't stop all of the micro bubbles but it did make a some difference.

New shots of down below

New addition: Flame scallop

This urchin came with one of the zoa frags. It's about the size of dime.

This was taken this morning. I had found my gum drop goby in the filter chamber right on top of the filter pad! Don't worry he's not dead.

My live rock & coral graveyard:

This is the 55 gallon that was once a reef tank. My dad turned into a fresh water tank. He quarrantines koi's for his pond.

I was in Oakland with a friend looking at cars and actually found a pet shop right next to the Mazda dealership. The place is called "Lucky Goldfish." They had lots of live stock and these 2 main display tanks which were also for sale. You have to see this tank in person. Unbelievable!

Here's another tank with sps.

Very nice shots. A sponge should help with the micro bubbles, but then you would have to clean it often. Maybe move your refugium over one slot? Have the intake in the first chamber and you output into the second chamber and put what ever you had in chamber 2 into chamber 3? Not sure but maybe.

I'd like to put sponges but like you said I'd have to clean it often. Also wouldn't the sponge stop pods, etc. from going back into the tank? moving the intake into the first chamber sounds like a good idea but I'd have to get a smaller pump like a rio 800 because the one I have now is just too big to fit in the first chamber. I'll give it some more thought. Thanks Tim

Yeah those are great tanks... they need some major pruning!

I have heard that thsoe flame scallops are tough to keep and most urchins are not reef safe, so keep a close eye on those two.

I like your setup alot... I look forward to seeing that goby once he is nursed back to being plump and healthy!

Unfortunately, those are the only picutures I took. I had to resize the first tank. It's a lot bigger than what you see. I'll try and post a bigger one to see more details.

Funny you say that, the urchin has already moved 2 of my frags out of place!
As for the scallop, what special cares do I need for it?

In regards to the flame scallop, you may want to check out this link...

HTH,

Jesse
Thanks reefman! Nice Article. Very informative. I ordered Kent phytoplex, Chomaplex, and Micro-Vert. I'm hoping that my scallop will benefit from it. I plan on dosing Phytoplex twice a week and alternating Micro-Vert and Chromaplex once and a week. How does that sound? I'm concerned about overdosing and raising nitrates.

I couldn't resist. I ordered my second frag pack of zoo's. I also wanted to fill up both ends of the tank so I ordered 6 pounds of Fiji live rock.

Looking great! Nice pics... keep us updated. As long as you remember that those filter foods are highly concentrated and that it doesnt take much...you'll be fine.

Maybe get a skimmer and run it after you feed the flame scallop?
Check, I do have a skimmer attached to my HOB regugium which is always running. I only turn it off when I do my weekly water changes. Thanks Tim.

Jesse - Thank you for your comments! So how does feeding 3 times a week sound? Phytoplex twice and alternating Micro-Vert and Chromaplex once. I'm just concerned with raising my nitrates but at the same time I want my Flame Scallop to have a chance. It seems to be content hiding in it's cave at the moment.

Starting this week I will be dosing Kent Coral-Vite and Coral-Accel. Coralline is growing in patches and everything seems to be progressing well. Now I just have to work on my patience! Thanks to everyone so far for checking out my post and for the positive feedback/support.

I would just follow the directions on the bottles... i think they suggest one capful per 20 gallons per week. I wouldnt recommend exceeding that by much as that stuff is pretty concentrated. you dont have much in the way of filter feeders anyways, right? Mainly just the scallop?

Would I have to target feed the Scallop? If so, How often? Right now, I'm dosing it into the return pump chamber. I tried dosing directly into the tank but it looks like most of sits on the surface of the water and goes straight to the filter intake.

I like your avatar! You should be fine the way you are doing it... you could always turn any pumps off and add it to the general vicinity of your scallop. I have read that you never want to squirt it right at the scallop or clam.
