Alternative to suction cups?

My suction cups die really quickly and are a pain to replace. Is there a way to hang powerheads onto the tank with some kind of hook? I know a few come with clamps, but I want to be able to hang any powerhead I want.

This guy is in Houston, and makes acrylic brackets to hold powerheads.

Most of his stuff is with larger PH in mind, but I'm sure he could make smaller brackets to fit whatever PH you've got if you can send him accurate measurements. He made acrylic brackets to hold my top off switches when I got tired of dealing with suction cups. They work great.

If you'd rather deal with someone local to you, I'd almost gaurantee there's someone in your area that does custom acrylic work, and you could perhaps point them at this page for an idea of what you're needing.

One thing I really love to do is take some tank cleaning magnets (like the twister magnets) and silicone the inner magnet to the back of the powerhead, let it cure, then place it in the tank where you want it and secure it with the outside magnet. I've done this a lot and they last years. I've had a few set up this way for over 3 years....zero issues.

What size magnet are you using? Depending on size magnet this could be either cheaper or more expensive than a few acrylic brackets.

I used the smallest twisters. I paid like 1.49 for them I believe. I never liked hangers...too unsightly for me.

Cameron, I really like that idea. You can also move them around. Why didn't I think of that before!

Seeing as how maxi-jet suction cups are gigantic pieces-o-crap, I think I'll steal Camerons' idea when I replace the 1200's in the cube with some 900's. :D Thanks Cameron!

:D...no problem. Suction cups suck period unless they are replaced every 3-4 months. The issue is the minerals in tanks (especially SW) will calcify in the rubber and wear them out. Just the way it is....all cups will harden and deteriorate due to this no matter what.

Do you prefer silicone over plain old super glue gel? Pros/conns?

I plan on doing this to 3 or 4 powerheads this weekend.

I'd silicone it. That way if you decide you want them seperated for some reason it should be easy to cut them apart. Like if your PH dies, and you need another. You don't want to have to buy the new PH and a new magnet. With the superglue They're gonna pretty much permanently welded together.

If you always us Maxi Jets then you can just superglue the bracket that the PH slides onto the magnet, thus only having to replace the MJ not the magnet....and no more glueing will be needed :)
