72 Oceanic Reef Ready Bow Front Evolution...

Personally I'd narrow the gap a bit, so that it's like 78-81. You'll just need to watch it a bit with the new lights and the glass tops, so that it's not running all the time.

Yep, I noticed a huge difference when I finally added heaters to my tanks that stabilized my temps to within 78-80 degrees. All my corals responded positively.

Before, I was seeing temp swings between 74-84 and it was affecting my corals.

how much of a temp difference was there when you added the tops?
how much evaporation do you still have with the tops on?

just wondering for the 75gal that im helping set up....
going to be in the process of a DIY ATO....thanks for any info

Drty811,

The response to my glass tops is incredible. I went to work today expecting to come home to fill the sump with about 1/2 a gallon and was shocked that I required no topping off.

It's a tight seal, just as tight as when I owned the nano cube deluxe with closed hood.

To answer the temperature question is hard since now I have a chiller. What I'm seeing is that the temp seems to be stable.

I'm just happy that I'm not connecting a ATO yet, the response of the glass top is great. It will buy me some time because I do maintain the tank on a daily basis and say I take a vacation I would require some TOP off but I could have a friend place some fresh H20 in the sump.

Once my lights arrive on Friday, I wll really see the temps move up and the chiller should be one a lot more. We will see.

Thumbs up for the glass top....

Here is a picture of the light I ordered; should have it this Friday. Because of limited space and the fact I want to keep my canopy I was limited to this choice. Current USA put out really nice ones, but Coralife came up the winner because they are the slimmest in size, at only 9 1/2 inches wide.

I only have 12 inches to play with at the end of my tank because of the bow. As soon as I get my light I will be able to play with additional T-5 lights by commodity axis. They have the 54 watt 48" inch actinics that are only .5 inches in width.

I also want to find a way to get my moonlights in the canopy, don't know if I will get two R-2 solution lights or two 1 watt coralife lights.

Anyone using moonlights on large reefs?

wow you are gonna have a rocking tank ! for the moon lights you could go to the local auto parts store and get what they call "molding tape" it holds in a varity of conditions , we use it on ours and it can be removed with goo gone if you need to remount them . we dont have "real" moon lights we have
http://www.winplususa.com/products/ligh ... 10416.html
for our moon lights and a cell phone wall adapter (the adapter that allows you to plug in the car charger to the home out let ) and taped to the light with double sided tape ..

I might actually try to put moonlights in mine this weekend. It's the first weekend I've had in ages where I don't have to go out of town, or have a ton of plans in town.

B,

What kind of moonlights draw interest to you. From the take on it, there are many out there that claim many things, lunar spawning, night vision and the ones that sadie talkabout etc.

What type of night critters do you think you and your wife might be able to see in your 75 g?

I use to have the banded coral shrimp in my old 65 g and he came alive during the night checking all the holes in the rock for food.

DIY moonlight setup. 10 LED's running off of one adapter. The local club had a workshop on them over a year ago, that was was free to members, and $5 per kit for non-members. I didn't have the canopies done at the time, so they got put in the garage, and I just haven't got around to finishing them.

Well,

My lights arrived today and since last night I moved in all my corals and critters, it was just a matter of plug and watch.

I took several pictures of my tank just after running the lights 30 minutes. I'm really impressed with the lights.

I really thought I would require additional lights and was shocked that I will not need more lighting for this tank. The hues on the tank are the best I've seen.

I give coralife a thumbs up on this design light.

Thanks guys,

With time I hope to add many nice corals, I will be mixing LPS and SPS. I'm just happy my stock corals are okay. They have taken a beaten ever since I sold the cubes, they have been in a holding tank for 1 month exactly.

I hope the healing process begins with this new tank, and I'm going to have to dose regulary on this one since I cannot do massive water changes like I did on the cube.

My next investment is the Phosphate removal from Deltec. Once I have that guy installed I'll save my money for the calicium reactor and then that's it.

Oh yeah, I'm going to be using two R-2 solution moonlights one on each side to give my animals the night tranquility they use to have in the cube.

Nice tank. Couple of things I noticed or have questions about.

I have an acrylic tank with the standard bracing on the top. It gets covered in salt creep and that reduces my light penetration when it's crudded up. Do you have the same problem with that glass top?

Also, since you're spending the money on a chiller and it looks that you've got 3 to 4 feet of return line, I'd recomend you go to Home Depot and buy some insulation wrap. No point in losing your chilled water to the air. It should be a cheap easy 'mod' to get the most out of that chiller.

Hi Phischy,

Regarding the salt creep, it's my first day with the light. After I run it for a full two weeks, I will check to see how much salt creep up I get.

I don't like evaporation and when I got the chance to get the glass lids I jumped on that idea. I new the chiller would counteract any increase in heat.

From what I've seen Phischy the glass tops really hold back evaporation. I even got a glass lid for the sump.

Regarding the isulation wrap, I will look into that since my hoses run right next to two hot ballasts. They don't touch the ballast but are close. It makes sense that the isulation will keep them cooler.

I'm trying to find two fans that will allow air to be pulled in and out of the canopy in the back, because I'd like to place the two plastic lids back on the canopy.

As of now I have to remove them during light operation and then I place them back when the lights go out. No big deal just that light spills a little on the ceiling without the plastic lids.

Is your canopy completely enclosed? What fans do you run? Have you had a problem with heat in your tank? And how often do you do your water changes and how much? Do you dose and how often.

Sorry for all the questions but ever since I got a large tank I'm still on nano cube mentality. With the cube the water changes did everything.

Thanks,

Mike

Wow Mike, you have pulled off an incredible looking tank. It's even caught the eye of Phischy, who's been dormant for a long time. Good job in awakening him up from his slumber, hehe.

I tell you I got that new digital handheld tester for testing the salinity gravity, PPT, and temperature. Very accurate piece Mikey, it beats out your refractometer, hehe. Also Sandra got a playmate for her Nemo. Amazingly it was a success with both Nemo and the new clown getting a long. It's brought a lazy clown to being an active clown. The differences between them are, that Nemo has always been a dark orange clown, and this new clown, is much lighter orange, almost yellowish. LFS said it was a tank raised percula. So hard to tell when they are so small. Anyway, regardless they are happy together. I'll get a thread going with pictures so you can see.

Again, congrats on the tank, looks like everybody inside is happy :p. Keep it up bro!
