Thanks! I'm going to use the old heater to heat the new saltwater I keep in a bucket for saltwater changes . . .

    temp

I'd love to set the temp - but I wanted a small heater and the only one I could find (under 6" long) has a stupid plus/minus thing - but no "temp" set. Any suggestions for a better small heater?

    sexy shrimp

They are so cute as a pair - go for a pair if you can. And since they normally hang out together - I think they prefer the company =)

    When to remove the "MOLT"?

YEAH! :lol3: My crab is not dead!! I finally found the dang thing . . . so the molt is what is laying in the crevice. Do I have to remove the molt or can I let my tank take care of it?? Thanks!

Mine goes from 74 degrees to 78 - should I turn up my heater and put it on a timer at night?

    Stupid Reef Pet Tricks...

Ok - how come my Nassarius snails will go anywhere EXCEPT the sandbed?? They will travel over rocks and glass - but sand cannot touch their body . . . and weirdly enough they also travel together as a pair - staying within an inch of eachother.

    Guess what I'm getting tomorrow!!!

My pom pom got along just fine with my 2 sexy shrimp - well, except he might be dead now (or molted - not sure yet). The shrimp have yet to even bother his upside down body (or molt as the case may be) . . .

    When to remove the "MOLT"?

Ok - my crab is either dead or molted. His body/molt is lying in a crevice that I would have to dismantle part of my rocks to get to . . . should I remove it now or wait for my 2 shrimp to eat it? I have my fingers crossed that it's a molt since he seemed really healthy yesterday and the...

    Most interesting fish . . .

Never mind - I did another search and realized that while the bumble bee shrimp do NOT HAVE to eat starfish - they do have to be fed meaty food daily. Too much work although they look cool.

    Most interesting fish . . .

Okay - here's another question - Would it be better to get (2) Sexy Shrimp OR (1) Sexy and (1) Bumble Bee Shrimp??

    Most interesting fish . . .

My question is - would 2 clownfish OR 1 clownfish and 1 Yellow Clown Goby be more interesting to watch?

    Hiding Tiny Heater?

How hot does it get? If it's not too hot maybe I could hide it behind my filter (which is he only big black thing I want sticking out) . . . Does 73-74 temp. work ok for you? Because I heard that it should be 79-84 degrees . . . that's why I worried about the tank going down to 73 at night...

    Hiding Tiny Heater?

I've debated over getting a heater, since the lights keept the tank about 76 degrees during the day, but now that winter is coming . . . .well the tank gets down to 73-74 at night. A regular heater won't fit in my small 5 gallon tank without using up too many room (besides looking ugly). I'm...

A college student's move to saltwater....

You can also use tapwater as long as you add something like AquaClear(at petstores for about $4-5). 2 fish should be okay, although obviously it will be more work to keep the water clear. I was told by several LFS that 2 clownfish are fine in a 5 gallon tank as long as they are purchased...

    Diary of a 5 gallon

I have just ordered another powerhead to increase the water flow, a mini-heater, Chemi-pure (filtration media), and a stronger light bulb. Once the tank completes it's cycle I plan on stocking the following cleaning crew: (1) Pom Pom Crab (1) Scarlet Hermit Crab (2) Bumble Bee Snails...

    Diary of a 5 gallon

Well I just started cycling my new 5 gallon mini-bow tank. Everything is standard except: * I took out the carbon from the filter * I replaced the bulb with a mini-compact flourescent bulb (10W = 50W flourescent) I put in approx. 10lbs. of live sand and 6.5lbs. of live cured rock Pics...
