Temp variation is bad; to go from 84 degrees to say 74 in just under a couple hours can wreak havoc to all inhabitants of your reef. Sadie if you acclimate slowly to say a cold swimming pool or a cold shower by lowering the temp you will avoid shock on your body right?
Same principle applies in reefing but to a higher degree since they breathe oxygen through gills and if you shock the gills you are in trouble.
Your temp of 76.7 is just a typical setting of a given day, I need to know what your variance is and then I can tell you if it's bad or good or okay.
Incysor gave me a good midpoint to fall into which is between 3 degrees of variance and nothing else. So I choose for my tank 76.5 to 79.5 this is a controlled setting for me because I have a chiller and glass lids to retain heat. In the example above with 10 degrees of variance in just under two hours is bad.
Three degrees of variance happens slowly in my tank every four hours.

Your temp is fine as long as it's steady.
Most reef tanks are a bit closer to 80, but that's because they run lots of lights, pumps etc... Anywhere between 70-82 is fine as long as there isn't a big swing in the temp during the day, especially over a small amount of time. I've even seen a few that set them up running at 65. But you're talking chillers and stuff. At that temp you may end up with problems keeping some animals as well. You're in the sweet spot, so it's fine.

Sorry Mike I was laughing so hard at the brrrrr comment that I failed to say that it has been steady at 76.6 degrees but goes up to 77.2 or so but I was mapping it out and saw that the warmest it has gotten since the addition of the 3 and 4th fan has been 77.0 degrees I was worried that I was freezing the fishies since it had been going up to 80 degrees or higer the higest was 83.3 degrees (I think) . Incysor so my 2 degrees is not to worry and even then it is usually only 1 degree that we swing ... Sorry Mike that I missed the boat on that one 
I am running a reverse lighting schedule for my tank and sandra's until the weird weather passes. (gets hot, gets cold, gets hot, gets cold) It's finally coming around to normal weather, so I think I may change it back. Currently I run my lights at 8pm, when I get home. It'll be at 78 or 79 naturally with the room temperature. All during the night, it stays stable as it gets cold, but the lights are keeping it warm and steady. In the morning at 7am, I turn them off again.
Again, once weather is back to normal I'll put them to how i had it before. On at 12noon, off at around 9pm. (Just a summer precaution I was taking as my schedule before, was making my tanks heat too hot)

You make me smile when you say, "My wife made me" as a married man I concur with those words.
Here I go, my wife made me get rid of the tank in the bedroom, said that the moonlights in that tank were too bright.
I told her that the critters need the light to go to bed, then in the morning I'd ask her why are my moonlights off, she said well, after the fish go to bed I get up and shut off their moonlight so they can go to bed. Go figure ???
Well, she won I lost, but hey she allowed me to get the 72 gallon in the living room if I complied.

I must tell everyone concerned about TEMP that there is an interesting, even eyebrow raising article (study) that pushes the envelope as to where current thought is or maybe even should be.
