Hiding Tiny Heater?

I've debated over getting a heater, since the lights keept the tank about 76 degrees during the day, but now that winter is coming . . . .well the tank gets down to 73-74 at night.

A regular heater won't fit in my small 5 gallon tank without using up too many room (besides looking ugly). I'm considering getting this small heater and putting in on a timer so it will only go on at night: http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW ... mdy00.aspx

I already have a Whisper filter that I love (it also keeps the surface water moving really well) http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW ... mdy00.aspx

Question is - can you put that heater behind the filter (to hide it)? And do I even need a heater - doesn't the ocean have a temp. drop at night?

i have that exact heater.. and i leave it on all the time.. it took my tank from ~70 to about ~73-74 before i got my lights... now i have my lights but i havent witnessed much of a temp difference with them on or off yet... i have the 12" corallife 2x 18watt 50/50 on top of my tank... while the aluminum housing gets hot, the water doesnt seem to change more than maybe 1-2 degrees...

right now that heater is an eyesore sitting behind my LR but poking out the side, im considering putting it INTO my HOB refugium (160gph HOB "filter" with LR and a little plant action going on in it)

but yea.. it seems to work if you only need ~3 degrees, which is all i needed...

How hot does it get? If it's not too hot maybe I could hide it behind my filter (which is he only big black thing I want sticking out) . . .

Does 73-74 temp. work ok for you? Because I heard that it should be 79-84 degrees . . . that's why I worried about the tank going down to 73 at night . . .

no complaints from my fish yet... but either way my tank wont be any warmer than 73-74 unless i buy another heater like that.. my room is 69-71 degrees which keeps the tank around 70

I think that you would be ok with putting it behind the filter we put ours in , of course we had to mod the filter top to accomidate the core but why not go with a hob filter ? I had that particular filter and hated it as it took up too much room in the tank . and took away precious swimming room from my guys this is what I put on my 2 gallon pico actually I put 2 on and got another for my neice and nephews 2.5 gallon mini bow we both love ours .
