    Some sort of tube...

This has just appeared in my tank within the last 2 to 3 days. It began as a soft spot about the size of a pea and is now a 2 inch tube. There is sand stuck to it and an opening at the end, almost like a feather duster. I just noticed it today and I haven't seen anything in it. Any ideas on...

    How many inverts

Just a note...along with Abarnswells post. I was studying Shimeks "Marine Invertebrates" book and read about bumblebee snails (Engina mendicaria). It surprised me when it said that it is a predatory snail that will prey on beneficial animals in live snad and in live rock. It says, "It is sold...

    coaraline algae

To help coraline algae grow, you just need good lighting, monitor your calcium at about 400-450 ppm, low phosphates, that about it. some supplements help, too.

    Is this a chiton?

Well...I did a little research and i dont think it is a chiton nor a limpet. It doesnt have a distinct shell, instead it has a hard surface only in it s head region (only about a fifth of its body). This hard spot is the light purple area in pic 3. the rest of the body is soft like a slug...

This should help many beginners with a confusing decision.

I think that this article covers the issue of lighting very well. All beginners should read about lighting before getting into reefing because it is generally one of the most expensive parts of the reef tank and sometimes one of the more daunting aspects. Anyway, I found it interesting and...

Getting a grip on the "bad" algae

P.S Brown algae is expected in the first few weeks...its not necessarily "bad" algae.

Getting a grip on the "bad" algae

you will probably continue to have brown algae until the tank settles. that is fairly normal for new tanks. I agree with you on the refugium idea...especially with those nanocubes. Have you checked out MasterEr's nano? http://www.nanotank.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1688 that is bound to do...

Hey could someone with a lighting question

The only way to increase the amount of light in your tank is to add additional fixtures or to change to another type of lighting, such as metal halide (which i think might be a challenge on a 12 g eclipse). I would recommend that you look into adding compact fluorescent fixtures to your tank...

Getting a grip on the "bad" algae

I would add some turbo snails. Do you use R/O water for changes/topoffs? How long has your tank been set up?
