Breaking up GSP wont hurt it at all. It may help you get to some of those bristles as well.

I feel that the Salifert test kits are the most accurate and easy to read. All you need is Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, and Calcium. those are the basics. I have no experience with the Hagen test kits. Jesse

My opinion is that adding a fish doesnt help the cycle...you are adding extra bioload to a tank that is already trying to balance itself out. There is plenty of dead and decaying matter on LR whether it is cured or uncured. Some people go as far as adding a small amount of URINE to their...

    Starting A Tank

The centipede looking creatures are probably bistleworm which are no big deal(usually). They are detrivores. They can become quite large and their population can grow pretty large (in rare occasions)...thats when they become a problem as they can become an irritant to certain corals. Jesse

I would say a big fat NO to the mandarin...sorry. First off, their main diet is pods....large tanks over 55 gallons or so with mature LR are necessary to produce a constant population of these creatures. Secondly, brine has little nutritional value...it is merely a supplement to and variation...

    33 or 30G FOWLR

Well, gutsy move on the butterfly AND yellow tang. The fish look real nice... have you considered adding a macro like Gracilaria for the tang and butterfly to feed on? It could also help with nutrient export. Is there any aggression between the fish? Jesse

    Prep questions for a 10g with a 10g sump.

You dont need to syphon the LS...the cleanup crew and your water current should take care of that. Actually, you dont want to disturb the sand much deeper than 1/2" or so. the ATO that I am going to be incorporating into my system is this one... http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.p ...

    Prep questions for a 10g with a 10g sump.

Personally I would go with a couple of the large nassarius species...you get better turning of the sand as opposed to the small species...good cleanup crew list otherwise. Jesse
