PITA = Pain In The A$$ i totally agree with you about catching the debris, i jsut personally wouldn't recommend it being there for any longer that 2-3 weeks. i know plenty of reefers who have their refugium lighting on 24/7, so i don't believe that this will be a problem for you!

personally i believe that sponge is a PITA. although good for filtering out scum, it is still a nitrate factory if not cleaned regularly (every week). would much prefer to go the following; 1. LR rubble and macro 2. carbon and maybe phosguard/purigen 3. heater and PH i ran sponge...

even still its always handy to get another opinion so i do advise that you take it down to a LFS and get them to test it. better to be safe than sorry. i had clowns in my tank and personally wont get them again until i get my 4x2x2 up and running. they get spooked at night easily in a small...

KoNP, stop doing anything, just do basic water changes for the time being. then, send me a PM with where you live and if you want i'll bring round my salifert test kits and we can test your water. also in the meantime take about 100mL of water to nielsens and get them to test it for...

Lace Rock a Good Base Rock?

well that depends... what is the price of liverock in US? when 1 kilo is 2.2 pounds at $3 per pound makes $US6.60/kg or $A10.40/kg... in aus we can pick up live rock for $10/kg

Lace Rock a Good Base Rock?

unfortunately no as the rock is not porous enough for the anaerobic bacteria to get in and do their stuff. best things are old pieces of live rock or dead coral

i'd actually head to nielsens but only to grab 20L of NSW... will cost you $6 but will be worthwhile and NSW doesnt mean New South Wales. it means natural salt water - water pumped from the ocean. what geoff is saying is that water from the ocean is your best bet at the moment compared...

    Finally put my tank together...

chances are good, biggest thing you need to do is stop fiddling with the tank and just do water changes and let it settle, everytime you play around in there you stir $h!t up again. i know its hard but just try and sit back and let everything go for the next 2 weeks with 10% water...

    Finally put my tank together...

i still wouldnt get one in any tank... they have a tendency to be attracted to powerheads. i know that feeling of wanting to throw in the towel but just keep pushing through... then end result is always worth it. i'd do another 50% water change tonight/tomorrow and then 10% water changes...

this is the reason why i truly believe i will never own an anemone... they are just too much of a hassle. oh well you live you learn konp! keep running that carbon, keep doing water changes and as geoff said, let the tank settle for a while. good luck

if you were allowing $150 for another unit... get this one instead... its still half of what you were expecting to pay, but will be such a better choice for you especially with the individual reflectors. http://www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.a ... d_622.html only cons are that you would need...

    Finally put my tank together...

maybe drop your temp down to between 24-27... thats the only thing i can think of. apart from that just maintain water quality and definitely grab another lighting system. maybe some pics might help as well.

don't get a t5HO from nielsens... get it straight from the importer at www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.au pretty sure i can guarantee that guppys will be cheaper. you can get those bulbs or similar from guppys as well. check your phosphates... they may be your cause. that and what is your...

    Finally put my tank together...

i think it would be great to grab another light fitting and no way would it over do it. i'd go the following Actinic | KZ fiji purple/ATI pro red | 14K | Actinic that IMO will give you the greatest range of lighting spectrums and will bring out all the colours of your corals. in the...

    Finally put my tank together...

looking good mate, only suggestion i would have is to either make a open top hood for the tank, or drop the water level in the tank an inch or so. reason being is that LM blennies have a tendency to carpet surf. looks like we have the same lighting system... if you were wanting to keep...

Encouraging Ocellaris Clownfish pair to host an anenome

BTA's aren't the occelaris's natural anemone that they host in (not to say they wont). not sure of the specific one that they do host in however. all that said, the only reason clownfish host in anemone's is because they feel threatened by there surroundings, whether it be another fish or...
