You are losing saltwater into your skimmer, so you shouldn't replace it with freshwater. Only evaporation should be replaced with fresh. If you're losing that much to skimming, I would just pour in as much saltwater as you are dumping out skimmate. The rest would be evap. Does that make sense?

Did you have peppermint shrimp in there? I have heard that peppermints can eat yellow polyps if they get hungry.

I think you can find a 20 watt screw-in 50/50 PC bulb for less than $20 online, but that is not going to significantly increase your lighting. You can still stick with the great coral suggestions made above. You might consider buying a lighting fixture and scrapping the hood in lieu of an egg...
