    Sponge from a cichlid tank?

The bacteria would die and cause an ammonia spike, which is what you want for a cycle to start. Just do not use the sponge or a live fish. Just throw some live rock in the tank and your cycle will start.

    Boiling Water?

I agree with djconn, Boiling water does not remove the metals from the water. Sorry, but this is not a hobby where you can cut corners and expect progress.

    ???

I like that one tank at Global, the one that looks like a rain forest.

What would you need to start a 10 gallon nanotank?

I have kept large tanks and I am now on a nano. I do not see any differences besides smaller water changes. Its the same as far as maintenance and husbandry goes, just on a smaller scale. I say if you can keep everything alive in a nano for a year, then upgrade. I think you are forgeting what...

    Leather ID

Yea, thats what I am thinking. I thought they had polyps though. Maybe mine is just not fully extended yet. This thing is fairly big. Maybe I will cut some frags in a few weeks.

What would you need to start a 10 gallon nanotank?

As usual, I disagree..... I think a nano is perfect for beginners. Reasons why: 1. CHEAPER 2. You need to do water changes, test the water...all the basic maintenance regardless of size. 3. Most likely no plumbing and expensive complex lighting to deal with. Basically it is the...

    Fans?

Depending on lighting and setup, you may not need fans. If you use metal halide...you need fans, PC or VHO....you may need them depending on if you have adaquate circulation and size of tank. If you use NO bulbs...you should not need fans.

    cheap salifert kits?

I have been searching around and that is about the average...give or take a few dollarz. I say just buy each individual kit that you need.

    Moon Lights

I use blue just for looks, but I have read that red lights are best since the tanks inhabitants would not be bothered by the red lighting at night.

    Moon Lights

Rephrase: If the corals release eggs into the tank, they will be eaten by any inhabitants. The bad part is if a coral releases eggs, it could trigger a reaction to other corals to release sperm...which is a huge bio-load.

    Moon Lights

My 2 cents worth: First, moon phases help corals spawn, which nobody should want in a nano-tank. If you do have a coral spawn, plan on doing 20% water changes for the next week and heavy skimming! Hope everything survives. Its the same as a biological bomb going off in a tank. I would not...

    securing live rock

Yea, I put mine directly on the sand. BTW, using epoxy to secure your live rock together may not be a good idea cause you might end up with one solid mass of live rock. Also,Limits your aquascaping options. I think I change my aquascaping about every other week......................Just can...

    Moon Lights

PetCo here has that same planted tank feature. Unfortunately their saltwater section needs some help. Tanks are overgrown with red slime algea. Only good thing is their prices on fish. Juvinille True Perculas are only $12.99 each.

I will disagree with wizord. They will multiply like crazy if you overfeed. They can actually over-multiply. Just do not overfeed.

    djconn's 20 gallon pics - Image intensive!

How does the Red Sea Prism work for you? Does it release bubbles back into the tank? I am looking for a hang on that DOES NOT release bubbles in the tank.
