    Again I'm in your debt! Thanks. I'm going to test all the params tomorrow again, it will be a week since the tank was set off running. Do you think I could start with a small clean up crew if they are all ok? What about the small powerhead/filter idea? regards Dave

    Starting to get a brown covering on my sand! is this ok? Salinty stable now at 1022. temp 26c Also thinking of either a small filter or a power head in the third chamber connected to the spray bar, good idea? Dave

    The salinity seems to have settled now at 1022/3. I have put a small piece of prawn in the tank today is this the right thing to do? If so How long do I leave it in/ regards Dave

    Thanks reefman :stonight I usually remove a couple of litres in a jug add more salt then put it back in the tank. I'll leave it tonight (uk time LOL.) and add some more in the morning. I found an old wine hydrometer I used to use when making wine a few years back, this is calibrated at 20c...

    The bubbles may be coming off the algae on the rocks. Definitely not got a leak the water level is staying the same! I'll add more salt and see how it goes. Regards Dave

    Yeah! Trouble is I'm in the UK, we can't get all the gear you can stateside! My test kit was approx $100.00!!!! But it will do around 80 tests. My salinity keeps going up and down is this normal? I found a few more hikers last night, to small to tell what yet though. Did all the tests yesterday...

    Found my first hitchiker!!! It looks like a small umbrella it dissapears into a tiny hole and then reappears and spreads its self probably about 1/4" across when fully opened Also a small brownish anenome thing?...Any ideas? Regards Dave

    Thanks for all your replies;) I have a full test kit that does, ph, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, kh, salinity. I have put live rock in place of the bio balls, should I put carbon in the last chamber as well? regards dave

    Hi. I'm new to the world of reef tanks. I live in the UK and have just bought a 12g nanocube. It has 5kg of live rock, the temp is 80-82f, SG is around 1025. How long to cycle the tank? do I need to keep the lights on while it cycles? I would be very grateful for any advice on when to start...
