    Broken light fixtrue

:welcome to nanotank! From your description it sounds like the endcap is not making a good connection. Where does the sizzling sound sound like its coming from? If the sound is near the bulb then you just need to replace the endcap which is easier to replace.

    2 weeks old NC12

flsandwoman, you are talking about a surface skimmer. I have to agree they are necessary in a nanocube to keep the surface clean. cristhian is talking about a protien skimmer, here is a link to the one he's talking about: http://nanotuners.nanocustoms.com/nanot ... cts_id=150 .

Setting up a small Nano Tank

Remember to clean your sponge a minimum of once a week and it will be fine to leave in there. If your filter came with the ammonia removeing resin (its usually white) take it out, it is for freshwater use only. Other than that you can use the carbon and sponge that comes with your filter or...

    I need everyone's input/suggestions...

Yeah, I noticed alot of his recommendations differ from what all of us have been saying/taught. Thats part of the reason I posted the link just to give all of us some new insight into refugiums.

    Live Rock question

:welcome to nanotank. I would take the LR and scrfub it with a stiff brush until it looks clean in some of the water it is in now, then place it in a container with a heater and airstone with new saltwater that is in a dark place and let it run for a few weeks/ Making sure to top-off the...

Setting up a small Nano Tank

I like to think of Chemipure as a super carbon. It helps absorb polutants in our tanks making them a better habitat for our fish and corals.

    New 2.5G my first Nano

Plain aragonite will be fine and since it is "dead" there can be no die-off to cause a cycle. You may want to rinse it in some old tankwater first to get rid of dust and impurities before adding it to the tank.

    Moving to a new tank

:welcome to nanotank! Add your LS to the new tank with some water mixed to the same specific gravity, pH, and temperature of the 7.5, then move your LR and aquascape it, after the dust settles move the rest of the livestock over. If you move any of your exsisting sandbed move only the very...

questions regarding adding new LR to tank

A powerhead is a small pump that is designed to be put in your tank to provide more water circulation, here is one as an example: http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_pow ... sp?CartId= . You don'r really need a filter but one can be substituted for the powerhead if you had one laying around...

Setting up a small Nano Tank

A filter is a good place to hide a bag of carbon and some people also like to use a filter pad to remove particulate matter from their tanks but if you do this you need to clean it once or twice a week. The addition of LR rubble adds to your tanks biological filtering capacity.

    New 2.5G my first Nano

You can get by without LS since any sand you place in the tank will eventually become live, it can be seeded from a tiny bit of LS from a trusted tank to help get it kickstarted. The heater is glass, I also have one of them in one of my nanocubes and they work well. Skip

Setting up a small Nano Tank

Target feed it with a few drops once or twice a week until you get several corals in the tank then you may just want to turn the filters off and give the tank a general feeding. The biggest thing now is to make sure you don't overfeed the tank since this can help algae blooms grow. HTH, Skip

    gaining control

You only need about a cup or so of sand to seed the new sandbed, you want to harvest this from the top 1/2" or so of your current sandbed. The stuff deeper down will cause a cycle plus most of the good stuff is near the surface anyway. Good luck with the "remodeling", Skip

    ADDING MORE LIVE SAND

I agree if you are talking about bagged live sand, if you are talking about the real live sand that has inverts and all in it then you may trigger a small cycle. In either case I wouldn't add any more than enough to barely cover the exsisting sandbed at once (<1/4") if that much. JMO, Skip
