Are these suitable for a pico?

green star polyps tend to overtake their space and can choke the others out , you may need to remove some of them to keep the yellow polyps .. Yep the zoas and the star polyps are very good beginer corals ....... :-)

I dont think that the hermits killed the clown unless they are very big , they eat left over food and other ditreis . Yes hermits will molt . You may want to try to remove the sponge if he got pinned down between that. Also check the floor around the tank he may have jumped out . You may be ok...

Are these suitable for a pico?

They would be ok for a pico , just watch with the star polyps as they tend to spread quickly , as for the zoas they too should be ok just put some space between them :-)

    Magnet Cleaner

I would not think so tey use a velcro hook for the "cleaning" part that will scratch the heck out of it you could modify it by using a self adhesive felt pad for it . But in my opinion most anything will scratch acrylic

    evaporation

nope just the oppisite in the winter with the heat on it will evap quicker because the dry air is pulling it out, in the summer the humidity is higher so therefore less evap. You could try a humidifier but its just eaiser to top off in my opinion :-)

need advice on what to buy...

No you couldnt keep clams , frogspawn, candy canes , scallops under that lighting....your best bet would be a few mushrooms , green star polyp, and perhaps a few zoas but they also need decent lighting to survive , sorry this is probably not what you want to hear . Hope this helps you some ...
