THe short answer is yes RO/DI water is necessary. That doesn't mean you need an RO/DI unit. You can purchase the water at most LFS. Some grocery stores carry it, although you've got to read the labels closely. Distilled water is not the same as dionized water. The watermill things are RO...

AFAIK they're standard Coralife endcaps, and bulb holders. I'll try to remember to check them tonight when I get home. The endcaps came with the icecap ballast when I bought it. (used) I bought the holders from citypets. B

If you're on a campus you might be able to get it from a lab. If they have filtered water in the caf, or dorms it may be RO, or RO/DI water. My office has RO filtered water in the breakrooms. Some grocery stores sell it. You have to read the labels carefully though, and look for reverse...

Totally avoidable if you have space to put a sponge over the intake...But most nanos don't really have enough room for that. :sad: B

Never heard of them. Link? I'd be careful to make sure that the lamps are the correct type for marine tanks, and that you'll be able to find replacement bulbs. Heck for that price, they're cheaper than coralife replacement bulbs, I'd probably just buy a stack of them an store them. :) B

I routinely go a month or six weeks without a water change. A lot depends on your setup though. How much it's skimmed, what your bioload is like, how mature the system is, etc... When my Father and I made the canopies for the tanks we put fans on one end, and the top. The fans on the end...

I really like the dimensions of the 30g oceanic cubes. But it's just a personal preference. There isn't any real advantage between it and a standard sized 29g tank. B

Hmm....I guess my question is how big a solar panel do you need to power 5-10 blue LEDs. I've already got moonlight kits with the wiring, connectors, adapter, etc... to run 10 blue LEDs. But it would be cool to mount a solar panel inside the canopy and just have them run off the energy...
