Zuma needs help !!!

Okay experts, I need help.

About two weeks ago I visited my LFS and see he has litterly hundreds of Yumas. Now, I've never owned a yuma only ricordias and they have done awesome in my tank.

Okay, I decide to purchase two gorgeous Yumas, one is light green all over and the other is blue/purple color.

They both fully expand and are doing great. Then I notice over the next couple days, the blue/purple yuma starts to shrink and never expands out, in fact a lot of stringy junk is comming out of its mouth.

The other green yuma doesn't have any of these signs. So for the next day I watch the blue/purple yuma and see the same deal. Very shriveled and stuff comming out of the center.

I haven't checked any water parameters since I know all other corals and inverts are doing great, fully expanded. In fact the green yuma looks awesome.

Okay, I'm concerned more than anything because this blue/purple yuma cost me a lot more money than the green one. Can someone shed some light on my ordeal?

Thanks,

Mike

Unfortunately I haven't had any luck with yumas...I've had 4 now, and they all shriveled up and died. I tried moving them to shadier areas, brightly lit areas, more flow, less flow. I was directly feeding them the whole time. I'm not trying anymore cause the suckers are expensive.

B,

Thanks for the insight. I'll see if I end up losing it. I will be upset, because they are damn expensive and I didn't even think this would happen. I've learned the hard way with elegance corals and will now put these on this list of do not purchase !!!

Lots of people seem to be able to keep them just fine...I would try the normal things...If it's in a bright spot, move it to a shadier area. If it's in a shady spot move it into a brighter area. Just cause it didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you.

Yeah, I've never owned Yumas (because they are so expensive) but I have had some issues with regular ricordeas. Sometimes they just 'melt' away for no reason. I lost a few bright orange ones a few months ago for no apparent reason at all :( .

Good luck Mike. Hope they pull through...maybe drop in a bit of iodine

My orange and my pink ones haven't ever been a probem. I've had green ones that just dwindled away. After a couple of them I tried putting the green ones in the shadier areas then gradually moving them out into the more well lit parts of the tank.

Didn't know Yumas can be so sensitive and hard to keep sometimes. I inherited that free one as it was all bleached and what not. Now it is pulling around just fine....the white has left and replaced with yellow. I keep it on the sandbed in the middle. I'm sure it's got a decent flow, and not a powerful blast of light on it.

As for you Mike....with my ricordia, when it started tossin' stuff out of it's mouth, that's when it died on me. It's funny how I'm getting more luck with a Yuma as opposed to a regular green ricordia.

Yumas don't like high flow and they do like lots of light. The main problem with yumas is that they require very good acclimating, most fish stores don't take the time or patience to do it properly so you're already taking him a rather weak specimen to begin with...it's a common occurence...this is why I've kept away from Yumas consistently.

Also, it might also be stressed as they're fairly sensitive to pH fluctuations and temperature fluctuations...

Also mike, from what I've gathered...blue/purple yumas are always usually gathered from the wild...they're not propogated in tanks so that could also be another reason why it's not doing so well. Good luck with your Yuma, don't fret, it's not your fault.

Well,

Guys, gals thanks for the input on my yuma. I've noticed that it's looking a little better. It's not that shriveled but still not expanded. And it doesn't have so much mucos coming out like before.

I've left it on the sand bed with not too much flow. Could be the PH or temp like Rbaby mentioned, cause other parameters are perfect.

I do believe they are more sensitive then the others especially if they are collected from the wild. My green yuma is doing great in fact she gave birth yesterday to a baby green yuma, yeah I'm a proud owner of a baby yuma.

That makes two births in my tank, the first was my RBTA and now this yuma. I just hope the blue/purple one pulls through, it's very pretty in color. If you look at my old thread you'll see it when I first brought it home, it's fully expanded and looks super healthy.

I'll keep you guys gals posted on it's development. I was going to transfer it to my SPS tank yesterday, but I saw some improvement, just a little but it was enough to leave it alone and see if it pulls through.

Here is a pic of when I added both Yumas into my tank one week ago. They are both in the back, the green yuma on the left and the blue/purple on the right. Can you see them?
