Hi guys,

My roomate and i need help (again). Our computer illiteracy has enabled him to change his computer password, and he forgot it!

So now what do we do? The password he changed was the windows one, the one they ask when you just start up the computer.

Any help greatly appreciated, ryan says thanks in advance.

Please hurry, he's been using mine while his is stuck.

An old coworker of mine had that same problem. He eventually paid some guys to 'crack' the password for $100. Lots of money but it got him up and running again.

Other than that, I have no idea how to address that issue. Sucks bad. Its going to involve lots of phone time and will probably involve a re-install.

Hi, thanks for all the replies.

Unfortunately, that really isnt an option, he got the cheapo pirated microsoft :eusanaughty

I mean, who's gonna pay 600 bucks if it costs just 8 on the street.

Might try reformatting then. Arent there any hackers out there?? lol

piece of cake.... go into safe mode, and log in as the administrator. chances are, you have no password for administrator, and if you did, it's probably the old one you remember. Try that.

Hi

Thanks steven, but, um, how do i get into safe mode :eek:pps and then how do i log in as the sys admin?

And if i get into safe mode and log in as administrator, will i be able to find the password, or will i have to set a new one?

F8 to get into safe mode, and once in, you'll have the option to log in as admin, as when you log in normally you do not have the option whatsoever. Once in, you'll set a new password for the one you forgot. :)

If that doesn't work, your pretty much SOL and will need to reformat.

It's always a good idea to have 2 logins (both with admin access) just incase this happens. Or write it down somewhere.

^^^ YES! Create a sys admin username along with the regular username and save the password in several places so that if this hapens again, it won't be such a royal PITA to retrieve it.
