Well The wife put a end to the big expensive tank ideas ( we just added 1600 sqft to the house), so i cam to one conclusion. if i am gonna go small, i will get the best loking one. Cadlight 12 gal with full refigium it is. Just please tell me i can get 3 fish in there. The fish guide on here says i can, so tell me thats right. Two clowns, and something else.

Im thinking one only if any of the ones you have listed.

The Firefish Goby would be a nice selection as a single fish, two is possible I think but really pushing it.

A confirmed mated pair of these would be doable but pushing the envelope on Bio load. These are kinda awsome and its possible to breed them in the home aquarium. They are mouth brooders and the male will hold the fry until; he spits them out. I have kept and bred these in a 10 gallon tank before. But you must have a confirmed pair otherwise you can only have one.

One of these with a Pistol Shrimp would make for an awsome combo. This an one False Perc or one True Perc should be doable and make a cool display.

One other fish and a couple of these would work out pretty good too I suspect. Do be advised that two of the same will possibly result in some drama in the tank. I have seen multiple fish of the same species in nanos before without issue, but the warning is there and its a good possibility. Additionally these will irritate most SPS corals as they like to perch on them and if they spawn lay eggs on the undersidfes of the branches. This can cause tissue recession although the coral will usually recover in a couple of months. The exception would be the Green Banded Goby. These fish are very tiny and are a minimal bioload on the tank.

At anyrate, your looking at one fish possibly 2 in a best case situation unless they are very tiny species like the Clown/Green Banded Gobies. There are a gazillion combinations that would work, your just going to have to do some research and exercise some prudent judgement. On another note...I have seen Mollies and Figure 8 Puffer drip acclimated over a couple of weeks from brackish water to full saltwater. This would also be a possible selection too. Mollies aint that cool but the Puffer is kinda neat and unusual to have. Only one of those though to a tank unless its kinda big as they dont play well with others of the same species. These are best done in a spiceis only tank as they aint much of a community fish.

The wife caved and i just order the Aquapod 24 gal with the 150W HQI sunpod. It should ship out tomorrow, and i cant wait. Any upgrades i should go ahead and order, like a better filter , skimmer, pump, andything that isnt sufficient that comes with the system? Once i told her she couldnt have nemo in a 12, she agreed on the 24 haha. Thanks for all the help guys, and i am sure i will need a lot more hopefully very soon.

Very nice. I was going to start gathering all the stuff to get my 29 gallon tank started but I went out yesterday and shelled out over 4k for "The Ring" for my g/f  Worth it I suppose but the tank project is definitely on hold until that sucker is paid off, not to mention the new bed that is being delivered tomorrow that was over 1k. Money is at an all time shortage for a while.

Congrats man. That's a big step. I just did that a couple of years ago. It's scary. couldn't be happier. Unless my wife was into the reef tank as much as me. But beggers can't be choosers right?

Thanks. As a substitute I think I am going to do a 10g ghetto tank. I have most of the stuff already so I think I can do it for less than $100 total not including live stock. It is pretty nerve racking to think about it. The knot won't be tied for awhile but I figure it is time to show the commitment. We have been together 3 years so I don't think there is any doubt anyways, but you know how women can get

Sometimes the lack of funds is a blessing in disguise when it comes to "reefin' ".

In the long run it will usually save you money and save you headaches by forcing you to researgh and plan a head better than one often times would. This usually results in a better planned tank, a tank with less issues and ill chosen live stock selections.

Lets stick to the original post and not get off track and hi-jack it.

Yeah those women... you know how they can get... okay, so I'm "the wife", but it's my husband that I am trying to convince into the spending money, space, and time on a nano reef. I guess it usually works the other way around - I don't really understand why. I'm not going to waste too much time trying to get him to get on board though; ultimately, I'm going to do whatever the heck I want :p

I've been on the fence about whether to go with a 12/14 gallon or a 24/28/29 gallon, but I also want a few "Nemos" (no, the movie isn't the reason I want a nano reef) as well a few other small fish, so I guess there is no point in going with the 12/14 gallon.

So does everyone think that the 24 gallon will really provide me with alot more reef, coral, fish options than the 12/14 gallon?
