Whats the best advice about anything you've got from a LFS?

John and Sergio at Global Fish and Pet have given me great advice, pretty much about everything in this hobby. They've told me more than once that I don't need something that would have resulted in a good sale for them. They're not afraid to tell you that they don't know something if they don't. It's pretty hard to figure out 'one' thing they've told me, or helped me with there's been so much.
Toni is the owner at Planet Fish. She's very knowledgeable about pretty much everything, and is very willing to share her knowledge, or answer questions.
Kenny at Aquatic Center is very helpful. He's willing to special order things for his customer, and seems to really know his stuff.
This might have been a little more generic than you're looking for, but I've gotten so much advice, and help from the guys at Global, and from Toni at Planet Fish that like I said, it would be difficult to come up with one example.

It has been very rare that I find anyone at a LFS with good advice. I was once told in North Carolina that I needed to vaccum my DSB! Well, since then I research what I am interested in buying then just go buy it. It was recently when I moved back here to Houston that I have found knowlegable fish stores.
I recently visited Fish Ranch where I was looking at a long tenticle plate coral and the guy working there suggested it was difficult to keep. He could have easily sold it to me, but he did not.

This was more of an observation rather than direct advice from a LFS but I'll give them the credit for it...
One day at City Pets, I was taking a look at their live rock tank and saw that they were running a Red Sea Prizm skimmer like I have on the tank. I was just checking it out to see if they had it setup like mine and I noticed a 1/4" hole drilled about halfway up on the side of the collection cup. I soon realized that they did this to prevent the skimmate from overflowing out the top of the collection cup if they ever forgot to empty it. The overflow would simply flow out of the drilled hole and return into the tank. Needless to say, this simple modification to my skimmer has saved my white carpet from being stained at least 5 times.

the LFS down the street from me pretty much specializes in SW. So they have very good advice, only bad advice they ever gave me was to buy from them, they are SOOO overpriced! Now I just go there for the advice

Best advice I have got, was when I asked the question. "What information do I believe? everyone is telling me contradicting information?"

He was right, if the shop owner has awsome healthy tanks, he obviously knows what he's doing...

I got some good unsolicited advice from my LFS. The owner told me that if I'm anticipating getting a new fish, for a week or so ahead of time, feed the tank a little bit extra. The tiny bit of ammonia produced by the extra food will prepare the biological filter for the new addition. I haven't gotten any new fish since then, so I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a very logical method.
