so i was thinking of a new DIY project and came up with this.......

i am building a canopy for my lighting, thinking what i can do to the top so it didnt look so plain......then it came to me. i have an empty AZOO wave tank(like the one mike posted)that i can put on top. then i was thinking about the filteration....came up with my main tank. drill the wave tank and have an overflow back to my main tank. eliminates evap problems. ill just use the tank for my small frags, dont need alot of light. dont have to move it to get into the main tank. the canopy opens from the front to access everything.

well what do ya think?

so you wanna plumb it so that you are pumping water from your main tank to the wave, then the wave overflows back to the main tank? sounds good to me.

Can you draw a diagram or something, I can't seem to picture it in my mind.

It will work like a charm.....

You are just using your main tank as a sump. I had a 2.5 pico with a 20 gallon sump for years, when I kept dwarf seahorses.....

Nevermind about the diagram, I see now what you are talking about. I also think it will work out great as long as the heat from the lights doesn't overheat the small tank. I realize it will have water from the main system flowing through it but if it is to slow you could have heat issues.

i thought about the heat issues, havent decided what to do........i going to run it for a few days with nothing in it and see how it goes......thats when i finish drilling it

I could be wrong, but i think if you place the pico on a piece of styrofoam, it should help reduce the amount of heat transfer from the lights to the "wave" tank.

The only problem I see with this project is.....

wouldn't the "wave" become your main tank, being it's on top.....  :D

The idea is sound, but to the prior comment about the wave tank now being the main tank I agree, oddly enough as the way it sounds, you will have a small pico of sorts, with a HUGE sump otherwise known as your main tank LOL....iam j/k sounds neat Ill be lookin forward to some pics :stonight

Semo,
What they are talking about is putting a drilled Wave tank on top of his main tanks canopy and then plumbing it into the main tank so it kinda acts like a sump for the Wave.
