photography wise, your problem is either that the camera is set not to focus so close up in which case you need the macro setting ,or more likely the small movements which are impossible to avoid when holding the camera are blurring the photo, try a tripod or if you dont have one, or set the camera on something steady like a book or similair to avoid any movement. Also the camera may be set with a slow shutter speed either because it's set that way, or because it does it automatically because the light is dimmer in the room than it needs. What camera do you have? it may have a kids and pets setting, or on better cameras an adjustable shutter speed.
