WATER CLARITY

I am still having trouble with water clarity. I see all these crystal clear aquariums and mine still looks like it is snowing. The particles are small but they are there still the same. I do have an Oceanic 29G Biocube and have had problems with maintaining the water levels. I am, only, using the provided sponge between the middle chamber and the pump. The middle chamber only has one unit of Chemi Pure. I have tried a thin layer of filtering material in the drip tray without much success.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have removed everything as everyone on this forum have recommended, except I have a thin carbon coated filter pad laid on the drip pan in the third chamber. Plus, I left the sponge in the pump chamber.

Sorry, the filter pad is in the drip tray of the second chamber. That's where I have a unit of Chemi Pure.

Any suggestions?

are they particals or air bubles? can you post some pics of your set up? The chambers and a full tank shot might help.

I think that you are right about the microbubbles. However, how can I get rid of them to have water that is crystal clear?

I haven't scene the 29 gallon bio cube so i can't be certain but i think if you set up an ATO it might solve all your problems. with the pump chamber getting low allowing more air to get down to the pump creating microbubbles. Like I said I don't know how the water flows through these but this could be an answer. This tank is supposed to be made so you don't have to add a sump.

If your water were crystal clear the bubbles would not be the reason your tank is cloudy... You would have crystal clear water with bubbles shooting around everywhere...

Cloudy tank plus bubbles just looks that much more occluded for you to view your corals or fish...

How young is your tank? What are you feeding your tank? How many times do you feed? Have you placed in any new live pieces of live rock? Has any critters died? Are you placing any type of chemicals into your tank?

Answer these and I'll be able to help you out....

Actually, I think what I am seeing is tiny bubbles because the water does not look cloudy. My tank has been set up for ten months. I feed once a day, alternating between frozen (mix of brine, mysis, squid, cyclops, plankton) and Formula One. Once a week I dose with 3ml of Purple Up and Zooplex. I, also, do a 5 gal water exchange every ten days. I have not added any new rock, nor has anything died.

Looks like you got a case of the bubbles.... You will need to break down the cascading effect with the use of filter pads or build some baffles....

Good luck....

have you removed the bio balls in the center chamber? if so you might need to add some live rock or something.thats along distance for water to cascade.

particles...

I have the same exact problem in my bc29. I thought when I got my tunze skimmer dialed in (which now that its working properly is awesome) it would help. I have no problems maintaining my trate, trite or ammonia, but i cant seem to get rid of the particles. my tank is 3 months old. I do five-six gallons every two weeks.

you guys might want to try a denser sponge on the return resevior side. In my cube Its ablue rather porous sponge by the return pump.
