Congratulations Eddie!!!!

You couldn't have picked a better camera for the job and I bet you will be very happy with the performance of this camera. I have the same exact model: Nikon D70S with several lenses and I can tell you that you can get stunning results from this baby. I can recommend you some lenses and techniques if you need any help.

I shoot 99% of the time in aperture priority and manual mode, but I also use shutter speed priority when I need to shoot for speed. I never use the auto mode or any of the presets of the camera.

I currently own the following lenses and can provide you some feedback on these three models, which I've been using for a while now:

- Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR II
- Sigma 10-20mm Super Wide Angle f/4-5.6D EX DC HSM
- Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX APO Macro EX DG HSM

The Nikon 18-200 VR has changed the way I take photographs and I certainly recommend this zoom lens. It's small, fun, flexible, sharp and fast. I have yet to find any flaws optically or mechanically other than the expected distortion which is easy to correct in Photoshop CS2. It's sharp even close-up and wide-open and certainly the most versatile lens I have in my bag.

I would suggest you to get a Nikon MC-DC1 electronic cable release and a good quality sturdy tripod such as Gitzo, Manfrotto or Bogen, as the tripod that came with your camera and that do come in most camera kits is not meant to hold a SLR type of camera like the D70S. Of course you can use this one for the mid time with no problems, but when you are ready to upgrade, get one that is reasonably light weight, flexible, strong and will last you for a long time. I have a Gitzo G2220 which is excellent for macro work. Also make sure to get a good UV filter to protect the front element of your lens.

P.S. I have not tried the Nikon 105mm VR, but for sure it's an unbelievable lens. It's just too new in the market and the reviews have just started to be written about it.

Again congratulations on the new camera. You'll learn to love it more and more and you progress with it. ;-)
