Unknown Type Algae

the first pics not the best but it looks like you have some hair algae , both red and green usually caused by high nutrients in the water .....do a partial change add some turbo snails and reduce lighting as well as increase flow you may need/want to manually remove some of the algae by tweezer ...also if you have room in the filter you may wish to run for a few days some phos guard and after that run some purigen to help with water quality

the red algae that is seen in the first pic is a real thick bristle type algae it was on the rock when I got it and hasnt spread at all since I got it but as far as the water change I had just moved the tank to another house and ended up doing a 50% water change because my mother inlaw saw the bucket of water and thought it was waste water so she dumped it. but I will look into the phosphate remover and also I have the lights on a 11 hr cycle so what should I cut it down to with out throwing everything into shock with loss of light ?

Dont worry about the red bristly stuff, i have the green variety and it doesnt cause any problems.

But like sadie said, do a water change, about 30-40%, and do some manual removal as best as you can.

I personally would reduce it to 6-8 hours cycles for the time being for a period of time that should not hurt the corals but inturn slow the growth of algea down a bit .... The goal here is to remove the fuel for the algea growths down to nothing ....by doing this it will starve it out .....the algea is the end result of high nutrients in the water by doing a water change and eliminating the food or high phosphates ect .. will eventually starve em out ..... Dilution will be a solution for alot of the problems of fish/corals and help keep quality high as well as starve out the bad stuff .....

well I reduced the lighting period by 2 hrs so its on for like 9 hr or maybe even 8 1/2 I did a 2 1/2 gal water change and also picked all the algae off that I could find plus I put the rock that was covered in isolation to make sure its gone before putting it back amongst the others hopfully that will help I also noticed something else i never really payed attention to before was i have little red bubble attached to 2 diffrent rock the best way to describe them is they look like the green bubble algae but instead of being green their red any ideas ? Ill see if I can get a good pic of them.

Great link...Sadielynn, I had some of that growing out of holes in the branches of my frogspawn. Its growing pretty quickly. Sure seems like the same stuff.

BTW..you posting that link proves that you have been committing FORUM adultery!!
