Too Many Pods

Is it possible (or bad) to have too many pods? My tank is absolutely COVERED in them! My sand bed looks like a fire ant bed. You know how if you disturb an ant bed, the groud get covered in them. Well, thats how my glass, sand bed, live rock is. You can actually observe them breding! I have never seen a tank with this many pods before........literally MILLIONS.

While that would be useful if you were studying their life cycle, I should think that having that many pods in your tanka t once would be a bad thing, ie, getting sucked up into filters and powerheads and getting chopped into tasty little floating bits. Try using some airline tubing to suck them out.

Have you considering getting a nice fish that would eat them? Not a mandarin (because nanos are just too small for them) but maybe some other kind of pod eater. Would be fun to watch him hunt em down.

I just cannot bring myself to put a fish in a 20. Just not enough swimming room. I broke my reef down and did a saltwater rinse on all my live rock. It made a huge dent in my pod population.....but they will be back.

I don't know if it's too late, but that many pods are a good thing. With no predators in your tank to dine on them they will breed like little roaches. I think you could certainly support a fish or two in a 20. I would just concentrate on getting a fish that tends to live in a small space in the wild. Such as a blenny, goby, or etc. Just obviously stay away from a Tang. A Tang in a 20 just isn't quite right.

A six line wrasse in a 20 would be fine. They eat pods, and are just fun to watch. I've seen lots of juveniles in the LFSs recently.
