TIDE effect in your BC 29?

Greetings Nanotankers,

I am brand new to this board, but not to the hobby. I have recently setup a BC 29 and *just* joined the community. I take it from the notes I've seen, Oceanic isn't a favorite on this board.

BUT!

My question is this. Has anybody experienced water overflowing into the filter chambers ONLY AT NIGHT? As you recall, the water line comes to the top of this barrier, but is supposed to intake on the right side. My water is gently flowing over the black plastic evenly all across the back.

I thought my powerhead was pushing water over the top, so I unplugged it for a day. No effect. I thought I filled it w/ too much water, so I took some out. No effect (made louder water trickle sound). It then dawned on me that this is only happening at night. Aha!

Could it be possible that the moon is pulling at the level of my tank water just as it does with ocean tides? Am I crazy? Let me know your thoughts. Unless you plan to tell me I'm crazy. :fu

Well the timing is important. I'm not sure what is causing it either. I'm pretty sure the mass of the water isn't great enough to be affected, but something has to be causing it. It the tank on carpet or a hard surface?

Thanks for responding. The tank is on a vinyl floor over poured concrete slab.

True about the mass of water. I've noticed that the tank has debris floating around when it's spilling into the filter. But in the morning, the water drops and the water flows as it should, thus clearing up the mess from the night before.

Can you take some photos? This is interesting. Bizarre, but interesting. I can't think of anything that would cause water level to just rise like that. I am not familiar with your setup. Are there any external sources of water? Auto top off, sump, or refugium? Temps stable night and day?

I can try to post photos later. Our digital camera is acting up.

There are no external sources of water. No top off, no sump/fuge, nothing outside the BC29 itself.

Temps range from 77.5 during the night to 79.9 when the lights are on during the hottest part of the day. Again, no chiller or any plumbing coming in or out of the unit.

Now I'm stretching here, but water expands as it freezes ... I don't THINK 2.4 degrees would make any difference of how much space the water is taking up so I bet that there is something else at work here.

Well, I'm stumped. Let me know if you find out please.
