Those darn flatworm thingies are back -- in droves!

I started getting little tiny green flatworm looking things on my glass and sand. I siphoned out all I could find, but guess what? They are back in droves! Even worst than before.

Any advise?

Is there anything that eats these little buggers?

Has anyone ever used Flatworm exit? I think I've heard mixed reviews of it, when I mentioned it previously on this forum. I tried siphoning them out, but that did no good. They came back with a vengeance.

FWE may also nuke your pods. I've used it several times and I haven't seen any good pods in months.

Oh no! That's depressing. I love my pod culture. I have a ton of pods of all shapes and sizes!!! I would hate to lose those.

I don't know if that's the reason I have zero pods or not, but I do know I have none in my tank now and I don't have any FW either.

Thanks, Everybody! I'll get some FWE and get to it. I can always reseed my tank later with pods.

I hate those darn flat worms! They're worse than algae.

Just to follow up on this post, i have recently experienced a swarm of FW, and the velvet nudi that I bought has really delivered a huge blow to the population. I know this is a temporary fix, but now I can treat my tank more effectivly with FW exit.

That's good you are taking care of that spread man. That's stuff is awful. I got to see that stuff up close and personal when I went to Pacific Reef, in the fountain valley area, and you know those tanks where they sell the cheap frags?? In there, is a swarm of flatworms....it's like it's a breeding tank for flatworms......it's so gross, I can't believe they wouldn't treat those tanks better like they do with the display tanks.

Also at Tongs....have you noticed a lot of their fish look sick? Especially the sixline and clowns? They have like an ick problem and also that problem where there eye bugs out.......isnt that popeye? Anyway, I hope things shape up soon for both places.

YOU just notice that dragon79 ... i notice that since i first got there ... and like alot reefers told me is not a safe place to get fish.... in my opinion tong's is great for frag prices and variety and when you need any kind of chemical or thing that you cant find anywere but in the web some times they have it ... but to get fish best place is on circle pet .... and corals at jeff's exotics on 405 taking the main st exit.... and pacific reef (sucks) nothing looks healthy and the good stuff is to price  ...
and well prices depends i always check prices at tongs, jeffs & circle pet and i get it were is cheaper... like last time i wanted to get KICK ICK and at tongs $25, circle pet $28 and jeffs $20 -(minus) my 10%off my membership...$18 bit that ...

so i should say: 1st place to jeff's exotics , 2nd place circle pet and finally but not final 3rd place Tong's.

JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY OPINION

I too am battling my first bout of flatworms. I have used Flatworm Exit four times now and these darn things keep comming back!!! :burningup It seems they are gone for a day or two and them I start seeing them popping back up again. I'm now treating my cube every few days to get rid of them. What are the "Pods" you all are referring to?

Where or what is Circle Pet? I've had real good luck with fish and corals from Jeff's Exotic in Orange, and decent luck with corals from Tongs. But every, and I mean EVERY fish I have ever bought from Tong's has croaked. New Wave in Orange is also pretty decent. A small family run shop and they are very honest folks.

yes for unknow reason tong's fish die.... and circle pet is another LFS located in 1940 Ximeno Avenue Long Beach, CA 90815 (562) 597-0619 ... i recommend them alot if you want healthy fish that eventually wont die and really friendly place and coral not that good as jeff's exotics ..(the one on Los Angeles County is like 10 times better than the one on orange).... hey can you provide the address of NEW WAVE in orange....

"pods" is slang for copepod...tiny little beneficial crustaceans(?).

As far as Flatworm Exit, i treated my tank recently and havent seen any since then. Here is my documentation from another post:

I went down to the LFS, bought some FWE and then spent the next four hours in heated battle with the little bastards. I started out by draining about 5 gallons of the water out of my tank into a standard 20 that I have laying around. This functioned as a coral/invert holding tank.

Once that was done, I took out every rock, blasting each piece with a power head to remove as many FW’s from the holes and crevices as I could, then placed it all in a bucket. What I was left with was a rather dirty, FW-covered sand bed.

I gave it a couple minutes to let everything settle, then when at the bastards with a airline, sucking as many out as I could. I did this 3 times.

Confident that I removed as many FW’s as I could, I placed the LR back into the tank in sort of a open pile in the middle of the tank so that the water current could flow through/around all the rockwork. I had a power head flowing across the back of the LR, and one flowing across the front of the LR.

After the temp in the 20g holding tank was the same as the 16g, I placed the corals back into the 16g.
I filled the tank back up to the top. I set up my HOT magnum (including carbon…just in case), and after cleaning all power head and my skimmer, I added the recommended 1 drop per gallon…plus some.

Within just a couple minutes, I began to see dead and dying FW’s floating around. I never saw many FW’s collecting on the bottom or anything, so I was never concerned about the toxins that were released by the FW’s.

Now, 2 days later, and no sign of a single FW.

This rock used to be the most infested piece…now there is no sign of a single FW.

BTW…all my corals were fine throughout the whole process. They were all open and appeared normal. I also have a full population of copepods. So overall I am very pleased with the product.

I am going to retreat the tank this evening with another full dosage , then on Saturday I will perform a full 30% water change.

From now on I will use FWE as a dip for all new frags…these things have been the single largest pain in my ass…worse than bubble algae, cyano…all of it.

***NOTE*** I CANNOT SUGGEST THAT ANYONE TREAT THEIR TANK USING THE METHOD THAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE. I INSIST THAT YOU FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS ON THE FLATWORM EXIT PACKAGE. YOU SHOULDN’T UNDERESTIMATE THE NUMBER OF FLATWORMS IN YOUR TANK, NOR SHOULD YOU UNDERESTIMATE THE AMOUNT OF TOXIC JUICES THESE FW’S CAN EXCRETE.
