The Slug

Does anyone know what this is exactly. I know it's a color slug from the phillipines. What I'm not sure of is what it eats. My LFS just said algae but that is definitely wrong. I did a little research online and it looks like most of these type of slugs eat sponges. Anyone have some input?

I love the look of him. He's so cool.

Thanks for any help or input.

Chromodoris willani

They can only be fed sponges and this paper explains everything, Page 4. Please take him back and inform your LFS not to stock them.

Chromodoris can not be fed in captivity as they feed on sponges, which when disturbed emit toxic chemicals and so are rendered inedible. This is also why, although very pretty, they are not ideal for keeping in aquariums. Some people do tend to try and keep them but find that they starve to death within a few months. But as they are abundant on most tropical reefs there is still a trade for nudibrachs as readily available on a frequent basis.
It is a beautiful creature but not ideal, by any means, for an aquarium. Sorry I know how much it hurts to give up something so great but it will starve to death.

Yeah I was afraid of that. It's too bad that people are so hard up to earn a buck that they'll sell creatures like this knowing that the people can't take care of them and they will die. He was fun to have for a day.

Thanks.

So I took him back and talked with a different guy there. He said he always tells people that they can't feed them and they will die and doesn't know why the owner keeps them stocked. too bad.
