Tank temperature, help

Is 81 degrees too hot for corals and fish in my nano?

My lights seem to keep my tank at a constant 81 degrees (my house is set for 70 at night and the tank stays 81). I wanted to know if I need to seek some kind of chiller, or look to cool the lights more.

I currently have live rock, live sand, and some cleaners (hermits, snails, and 2 emeralds) in the tank and they have been doing fine for over a week now.

Mine both stay around 80-82 without heaters in either tank. The house is set at a constant 76 degrees, but with the lights/pumps, etc....the tank temp rises a bit. As long as you don't have a major temp swings taking place on a daily basis, 81 is fine. If your corals seem happy and healthy at that temp, then it's all good. I know someone who keeps his reef at 76 and swears that his corals are much happier. Personally I think it's a matter of personal preference and adjusting to your tank's heat output from the equiment, and compensating however you need to, to achieve a stable temp.

Do you have a hood or anything?

I have an open top and have not had a heat issue. Then again, I have never looked at the temprature floaty thingy that's in the sump. I figured if nothing is keeled over, floating at the top and the water is clear - all is well
