Tank plans

Okay, how's this set up for a modest shroom tank?

What I have:
All-Glass Aquarium 7gal minibow
32w Power Compact hood w/ 50/50 bulb
AquaClear 70 (300) as fuge (with AC mini impeller)
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier
Tropic Marin salt
Tronic 50w heater in fuge

Not sure how many pounds of sand and rocks yet

Do I need a powerhead? I've read that mushrooms like low currents.

Any fishes to recommend?

Planning to get:
automatic water top-off
microchiller (I'll probably get it in time for the summer)

Thanks! :D

If you use tap water you'll need a hefty cleanup crew to battle algea blooms if your local water is high in phosphates. Might be a better idea to simply buy RO/DI water.

Sounds good to me. I'd probably throw in a 404 mini jet just for water circulation. You always want a little current. The shrooms will like it too.

Will that 50w heater really fit in your AC300? Isn't that a pretty big heater for a 7 gal tank?

A little goby would be cool in your shroom tank. Maybe even a Catalina especially if you get that chiller.

I'd suggest a different goby, one that is meant to be a reef inhab.

I had that same set up, but used a CPR HOB auafuge on the back of my minibow. Loved that little tank!! I never needed a chiller on mine, not sure why you would need one. Are you retro-ing the lights into the stock hood yourself?

You wll need a powerhead in there. The AC fuge will provide some flow , but not quite enough. Look for a micro-jet or a mini-jet. I have a micro-jet that's been running for about 3 years now. Great little powerhead.

LR - shoot for a pound to a pound and a half per gallon. Between 7-12 pounds should do it. LS - about an 1"- 1 1 /2" is plenty deep for a nano that size. Probably about 6-8 pounds I think.

Thanks for your ideas, guys... Actually, I was considering a neon goby (can I have more than one in the tank?) I saw them in a store and they were really cute!

Also, there's one thing I haven't decided... Should I put a sponge or something over the filter's intake? And the powerhead's? I've had a powerhead spit out snail bits before and it wasn't pretty.

No problem with the minijet, I actually have one somewhere in the basement... The suction cups don't work anymore, tho. Is there a way to secure a PH to the tank that doesn't use suctioncups? They always die on me.
