tank placement

Ok, I just spent the last 3 days moving and after 9 years of roommates, I"ve finally got myself a 1bdr apt. Hoo-yah, I can finally walk around in my boxers and not give a shit.

Couple of problems with the place, I've got big furniture and so finding a place for the tank is an issue. The only place it will go is in between my TV and floor standing speaker. Will this be an issue for the electronics? I will have a canopy on the thing and there will be nothing on top of the stand/tank/canopy, just next to it and a few inches away. All electronic coords/power strips are off the floor in event of a spill. I won't get teh stand for a month or so.

Kinda ok deal since I've got jury duty till July but whatever. Just wanted to know what ya'll thought, if it's a bad idea then I'm going to have to get hella creative to find a place for this thing.

Just plan for the worst! Personally I would not chance it, but if you plan it right...it should not be a problem.

BTW...congrats on the new apartment.

Boxers? I run around naked celebrating my freedom! I've heard about fire hazard this and fire hazard that, but(knock on wood) I've got a fireman's nightmare in my house with all the electronics plugged into extension cords plugged into diffusers and multi outlets. I say be aware of what you're doin and don't do something stupid, but I don't think it'll be a big deal to put it there. JMO

Yeah, I agree. Just think about what you're doing and everything should fall into place. Only thing I can think of is try to get as much space on the sides and back as possible. I never thought I would be fiddilin around back there so much but you will.

How longs jury duty?

On one side will just be a floor speaker so It's easy to move it out of the way. Although I should get some bananna clips for it so I don't have to fart around with the binding posts all the damn time. I'm really stuck for space, I was even thinking of going down to a 20gal just so it'll be shorter, but pops has the dimensions for the 35 so I think I'll stick with it. Everything will be off the ground to avoid shorting out anything so it'll just be runing the carpet, and that stuff is hella old anyhow, no loss there.

The JD will last till the end of June. Interesting case, I'll post more about it once it's over with and the judge gives us the OK.

Being next to the floor speaker, I'd be very cautious about sound vibrations annoying your livestock. As you and everyone else probably already knows, water is a much better conductor of sound than air, and the constant vibrations caused by the speaker could annoy your livestock to the point where corals don't open, fish and inverts are stressed, and the tank generally does not look it's best.

I'd reconsider the placement personally, but it's your tank, so you do as you see fit. Just my nickle minus three pennies.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. My speakers are about a foot and a half away from my big tank and so far I haven't noticed anything being disturbed. If the speaker is on carpet, I don't think it would really effect anything unless your blasting Tupac 24/7 or something. Knowing Phischy, he just might be :-$

hahaha, he said tupac. Sorry, but I pictured DJ as a middle aged white guy driving a Toyota Camery jamming Kenny G. No Offense!

John Denver = Time In A Bottle, Sunshine on My Shoulder, Hug A Tree...
Tom Petty = Free Falling, Walls...
Dan Fogelberg = High Country Snows, Down the Road, Ballad of John Sutter's Mill...

Not ringing a bell? Denver and Fogelberg are acoustic folk singers, and Tom Petty is more light southern rock/blues.

My speakers will be about 3" from the tank, and Tupac is a wussy. I like only the real hardcore gangsta-rap: Bee-gee's, Sherl Crow and Simon & Garfunkle!

Actually the place I"m in is very quiet so I won't be thumpin' baselines at all. However if someone does get uppity, I've got enough watts to blast out several of my favorite bag pipe groups till they come to lynch me. Why people don't like bagpipe music I don't know, that shizzel rocks.

Once I get it setup I'm going to do an expierement to find out what critters like what kinds of music the best. I think I may also start curing my live rock about a mo nth before the stand gets here just so I can start doing something.

Except for one thing Karita, long before you met the DJBJC, in college he used to 'expirement' while finding his musical self. Yes, it's true, I have several old mix sets of DJ working with Barry Manallow and Neil Diamond.

The worst part is he's dubbed himself in singing...the horror.
