Tank Disaster...

I recently learned the hard truth about Ich in saltwater tanks. It is ruthless! It took the lives of all three of my fish in just over two and a half days. I have read different things about the wait time before I can reintroduce fish into my tank. Some say a week some say three months. I turned up the temperature two degree to help speed up the parasite's life cycle. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have always been told to wait a full 4 weeks before adding any livestock back in the tank.

4 weeks sounds like a happy medium. I was told that Ich is a common parasite in saltwater tanks and it only presents itself when fish are stressed or already plagued by an existing condition. If this is true, why would one have to wait to add fish after an Ich attack? I don't want to sound smug, just curious.

This parasite has about a 28-30 day life cycle. With no host in the tank it should pretty much run its course and die off. Fish that are stressed or lacking in diet and general health will be very suseptable to ich out breaks.

Thanks for the advice. I'll trying doing regular feedings with garlic treated food. Maybe this will help keep Ich away for good.
