Something for my false perc...

I am looking for a coral that my O. Clown MIGHT host in... he swims around the tank constantly like he is looking for something to do... im thinking maybe if i get something he could host in he would settle into it every once and a while... and maybe go there to sleep...

so any suggestions? he is VERY small and i am feeding him properly to keep him nice and small (2 flakes in the morning and 2 in the afternoon)

and when i say small i mean like 3/4 of an inch... like if i put a piece of food i think is small in there its usually too big for his mouth and he needs to wait a second for the water to soak it before he can swallow it...

thanks in advance

Frogspawn, and torch corals are pretty hardy and wavy. I've seen my clowns in my feather duster, mushrooms, GSP, Anthelia, and rubbing against the cleaning magnet.

I have seen clowns host in star polyps, xenia, many LPS corals like goniporas and frogspawns. I have a pair of true perculas that love to play in the xenia and They sleep there quite often too.
If you are having problems feeding the little guy you may want to try some freeze dried cyclopeeze, a tiny pinch worked well for my percs when I first got them and they were a little smaller than the one you described. Good lck, Skip

no problems feeding.. hes loving life... at least it looks like he is... assuming fish are anything like people - the fact that he is playful and swims in and out of the current and just in general loves to explore everywhere that there is light (hes afraid of the dark) means he is healthy... his colors are beautifully bright orange and clean white and black... there is a pic on my tanks page in the "nano 20 gal and under" forum...

frogspawns are the ones that look kinda like anemone with the green tips? i like those.. maybe ill find one around here...

awesome... well i have a very small mushroom that has just reopened and is starting to grow after being put in my tank on thursday.... (i think the guy at the LFS touched it when he was breaking the rock for me and as a result it shriveled to almost nothing from a 2" shroom,,, but the good home he is in now is letting him open back up and grow a little bit) so hopefully it will get there... but i am looking to get something that he might be interested in now... so maybe ill look around for a frogspawn... or does anyone on here know if someone might have some to frag for me? i would just need a 2" piece seeing as the clown is so small... and they can grow together... lol

i would of course pay for it and shipping,,, preferrably just shipping

In my experience the tank raised ones tend to be a bit slower to host, and pick a wider variety of things to try. I'm not sure why that would be though. I've got a friend that's raising tons of true percs, and she puts fake plastic anemones in the tanks and they all wiggle right down into them. Perhaps the larger farms don't provide any type of 'host' for fry?

i would go with that theory... ive just heard that since they are tank raised they dont really ever have anything to host in until you give them something... and sometimes tank raised will ignore anemone and corals all togther to host with a magnet... i just hope mine learns the ways of his ancestors so that i can take a pic for the contest lol...

I have some wonderful pulsing Xenia in my reef tank that I wouldn't mind hosting in. :) It's very snuggly looking.

I am planning to add a trio of juvenile Oscellaris to my tank and hoping that they'll go for the Xenia. I just love Xenia, and don't want to mess with anenomes. (It goes against my self-imposed life rules to have a pet that stings. :)
