Should a new sand bed be considerered when moving?

I have to move this weekend and I was considering a new sand bed. Some people recommend that only a new sand should be used when a reef is moved or transferred from one tank to the next, and only a few cups of sand from the tank should be used for live-sand-seeding purposes. When the waste in the sand bed is released into the water all at once, it can cause a reef tank to crash.

Should I consider a new sand bed or stick with the one that has been established for nine months now?

Mine was established for 11 months when I moved, no ill effects. My bed was heavily disturbed as well due to my rock going to the bottom of the tank.

When you set it back up, start the tank up and let the water clear before adding corals/critters back in.

I have had to move three times in the last year and every time I used the existing sand bed, with no ill effects.....

The main time I think you may have a problem from disturbing an existing sandbed would be with a very deep sandbed. The average sandbed of a couple of inches or less should pose no problems in moving it other than the expect little duststorm. JMO, Skip

PS I moved a 92 gallon corner tank with a 5-6 inch deep sandbed with no major problems.

Thanks a lot guys.
I use a shallow sand bed and I am going to stick with it.
I really appreciate the feedback. I'll keep monitoring the levels as the tank goes through a mini cycle until things start to stabilize again.
