I have a new 12 gallon nano tank (JBL). Does anyone have any ideas as to how to aquascape? Should I pile up live rock for the most pleasing effect? Thank you for your suggestions.

you may have to play around with it a bit till you find something that is pleasing to your eye .Aquascaping is one of the more personal prefrences of this hobby.
I have taken the bigger rocks in mine and built it up with the smaller peices . Leaving lots of nooks and cranneys to allow the fish to hide as well as allowing for future pieces of corals. If you pick some intresting pieces they should fall into place like a puzzle for you. If you find that they dont fit "right" dont be afraid to use a hammer and screwdriver to chip it into a shape you like , I have even drilled holes through mine for an arch effect , it will make the water a bit cloudyier and take a bit more time to clear up but no worries there . Hope this helps ya out. BTW :welcome

My advice is go with small pieces of live rock, the tendancy is to purchase big pieces and you cannot aquascape nicely....

Be very very selective with all the pieces your choose, remember you don't have a lot of real estate...

the funny thing is that even if you get the LR where you want it.......down the road you will change it. i have changed mine like five or six times. everytime i buy something new i have to move stuff around for the best placemnet

The one other peice of advice I would like to add is leave enough room around the sides and in front of the rock so you can get your cleaner in there to clean the glass. Some magnet cleaners take up a little more room than you think.
