I would rely more on a clean-up crew to do that rather than a fish. However, a yellow watchman goby will occasionally sift the sand and would do okay in a 12g.

i do i have a cleanup krew, but there not doing a good job, all they do is kill each other. i have,

1 scarlet hermit
3 blue leg her
5 cortez herm

2 artisa snail
2 margarita snail

had 2 more snails of each but my hermits killed them, i threw in extra shells so they wont kill each other.

so u think the goby would help? i was playing to buy a goby but didnt know withc species to buy.

I believe they *may* pair up with a pistol shrimp. The pistols can be pesky in a 12g though... they LOVE to throw sand everywhere.

Ugh, I can't think of the fish's name, but there is a type that filters "sand" (not crushed coral) through its gills. I've never owned one myself, but I've been wanting to get one for the 20g tank that I just purchased.

Jawfish dont sift sand, they just burrow. For simply stirring sand, your best bet is nassarius snails, as mentioned above. Your current clean up crew includes nothing that sifts sand. Also, pistol shrimp and the peppermint shrimp shouldnt be a conflict issue, they feed on different things, and occupy different tank space.
