New to saltwater tanks? Don't know which salts to use? Want me to tell you which is the best one?

Well too bad.

I can't tell which is the best, nor can I tell you which is the worst...I can provide my opinion, sure, but there's always someone who will reply back with "No way! My Salt A is WAY better than your Salt B!"

So, here's a link to a website that did some research comparing commonly available commercial salts to the ocean. You just may think twice about using that Red Sea or Instant Ocean salt you just bought...

I think it was done before Oceanic came out...if I'm not mistaken Oceanic is fairly new.

Yeah, its pretty new. I really like it so far.

I love it because it dissolves so quickly, and everything seems to flourish with it. It's slightly more expensive than Instant Ocean, but looking at how that rated...I'm more than willing to spend the extra few bucks. I was a trifle bit surprised to find my beloved Red Sea salt so low on the list, tho...I really liked that stuff

dj, i was wondering the same thing... I also use oceanic - so far, so good.

I started using Oceanic after using Instant Ocean for about 10 years. Oceanic is actually cheaper in my area, that's interesting. Great product so far.

I get a bucket that makes 50 gallons for $15.99 here. Not bad IMO.

yup - use oceanic - it mixes better and has more calcium than IO
